School-Age Care
YWCA has been providing comprehensive, quality, year-round services during
non-school hours for nearly 30 years in the greater St. Louis community. Through
School-Age Care, we provide children, ages 5-12, a variety of adult-supervised, developmentally
appropriate activities before and after school and during the summer
months. Programs offer a safe learning environment that supports the academic,
social and physical development of children.
Our RISE (Reaching Independence through Support and Enrichment) program
enhances student development by incorporating academics, nutrition, community
involvement, emotional support and character-building, along with parental engagement.
It is supported through a partnership with the Area Resources for Community
and Human Services (ARCHS) at three of the 10 program sites for elementary school
children in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Our signature Camp Derricotte offers eight weeks of summer enrichment that
bridges learning from the end of one school year to the start of the next. Structured
academic and recreational activities such as math, reading, science, character-building,
educational field trips, arts and crafts and guest speakers are incorporated into a
new theme each week.

In 2010, more than 1,000 children and their families were served
in the School-Age Care Program.

Children received 140 hours of financial literacy awareness.

School-Age Care operated in 10 partner elementary schools in
the St. Louis, University City and Normandy school districts.

Camp Derricotte provided eight weeks of summer enrichment at three
locations in south and north St. Louis communities and University City.

School-Age Care joined in national Lights on Afterschool events in
October to highlight the importance of after-school programs that
support working families by providing safe and affordable care that
inspire children to learn.
