LOOKING AHEAD While we continually review and refine the work practices of the Education Centre, we will also continue to identify programmes of support for all the educational partners locally, regionally and nationally. We will continue to implement whatever changes are deemed necessary to ensure not only the survival but also the growth of the Education Centre in these very challenging times. At the same time we respond to the needs of the local and regional community that we strive to serve. As a response to the findings of the ‘Draft National Plan to Improve Literacy and Numeracy in Schools’ where it has been established that a concerted national effort is required to improve the literacy and numeracy for our young people, Laois Education Centre in collaboration with PDST has put plans in place to initiate a pilot project on ‘Planning for Literacy and Numeracy’ involving five of our primary schools with a view to exploring the planning process for numeracy and literacy. We look forward to another successful year.
