The Outdoor Classroom: Summer Course
This summer course was delivered through a series of lectures, practical workshops, discussion and
a field trip. The aim of this course was to enable participants to:
Develop and use exploration trails on the school grounds and vicinity
Construct, maintain and utilise a garden in order to teach about the environment, sustainability
and conservation in a practical way
Identify plants and devise practical methods of learning about them
Identify invertebrates of land and water and devise ways of learning about them using active
learning
To employ a sustainable approach in the day-to-day organisation of the school and to increase
biodiversity on the school grounds.
