Clustered Planning Days The Department of Education and Skills confirmed that schools may, with Board of Management approval, close for one day during the 2010-2011 school year for planning purposes. If schools had not scheduled their planning day and wish to work collaboratively with similar size schools in their local education centre, PDST advisors facilitated the following planning days in the Education Centres. Schools could opt to participate in either of the two days. The topics offered were; Writing Problem solving in Mathematics Shared Planning Day on Problem Solving The Planning Day on Problem Solving explored the skills of problem solving, different types of problems and strategies to teach problem solving at all class levels. Planning time was provided for participants to discuss and devise an action plan for problem solving for their school. Our facilitators for the day were Mags Nohilly & Íde Ruaidh. Shared Planning Day on Writing This Planning Day on Writing will incorporate a guided approach to teaching writing genres at all class levels. We will also address the teaching of grammar, assessment of writing and the use of ICT as a teaching tool for writing. Planning time will be provided for you and your staff to discuss and devise an action plan for Writing for your school.
