Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority<br />
Participation (TLSAMP)<br />
Tennessee State University, LeMoyne-Owen <strong>College</strong>, Middle<br />
Tennessee State University, University <strong>of</strong> Memphis, University<br />
<strong>of</strong> Tennessee and Vanderbilt University partnered<br />
to form the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority<br />
Participation (TLSAMP). <strong>The</strong> goal <strong>of</strong> the TLSAMP program<br />
is to increase the number <strong>of</strong> under-represented minority<br />
students studying and graduating in Science, Technology,<br />
<strong>Engineering</strong> and Math (STEM).<br />
<strong>The</strong> objectives to support the goal <strong>of</strong> the alliance are to:<br />

under-represented minority science and engineering<br />
students at all schools; and<br />

are prepared to enter graduate school.<br />

National GEM Consortium<br />
<strong>The</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Tennessee is a proud member <strong>of</strong> the<br />
National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in<br />
<strong>Engineering</strong> and Science, Inc. (GEM). <strong>The</strong> mission <strong>of</strong> GEM<br />
is to attract a pool <strong>of</strong> African American, Hispanic American<br />
and American Indian talent to careers in the fields <strong>of</strong><br />
Science, Technology, <strong>Engineering</strong> and Mathematics (STEM)<br />
by promoting the attainment <strong>of</strong> advanced degrees.<br />
Each year, GEM identifies and recruits more than 1,000<br />
undergraduate students, graduate students and working<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essionals from these underrepresented groups for<br />
admission to advanced degree programs at the nation’s<br />
top universities. GEM provides graduate students with<br />
much-needed financial support that is <strong>of</strong>ten the deciding<br />
factor in pursuing graduate education through three<br />
graduate fellowship tracks:<br />
