56. A Surveyor’s Assistant Grade I in the office of a G.E. will:–<br />

(a) prepare tender documents (except specifications and drawings) for works services within the<br />

GE’s powers for entering into contract;<br />

(b) technically check all deviation orders, rates and contractor’s bills before payment and muster<br />

rolls after payment;<br />

(c) carry but such other technical duties relating to contracts and biBs as he may be directed to<br />

perform.<br />

56.A The detailed duties of SA-I working in the office of CEs/CsWE have been laid down in table<br />

N.<br />

57. A Superintendent Clerical is responsible for the supervision, training, guidance and discipline<br />

of the staff working under him.<br />

58. Superintendents B/R and E/M Grade II and Supervisors B/S Grade II are generally posted as<br />

assistants to Superintendent/ Supervisor Grade I. They will perform such duties as may be assigned to them.<br />

A Superintendent B/R or E/M Grade II may be placed in charge of an independent section under a GE.<br />

When so employed, he will carry out the duties and exercise the technical and financial powers laid down for<br />

a Superintendent Grade I in charge of a Sub-division (see para 52 and Table B).<br />

59. A Surveyor’s Assistant Grade II will generally be responsible for squaring and abstracting<br />

dimensions, and pricing and moneying out of bills of quantities and estimates. He may also be required to take<br />

off quantities, prepare estimates for or take measurements of small services and to carry out such other<br />

technical duties relating to contracts and bills as he may be directed to perform.<br />

60. The duties of a Draftsman in an engineer office include:–<br />

(a) preparing designs from sketches and instructions;<br />

(b) making plans from measurements, including chain surveying and levelling;<br />

(c) tracing and copying plans ;<br />

(d) keeping all record plans amended to-date;<br />

(e) keeping registers of buildings amended to-date;<br />

(f) such other technical duties as he may be directed to perform.<br />

61. A Storekeeper is responsible fon-<br />

(a) the receipt and issue of stores in accordance with the prescribed procedure;<br />

(b) the safe custody in good order and condition of all stores in his charge;<br />

(c) the correct maintenance of tally cards and the Stock Register;<br />

(d) the actual quantities of the stores on charge;<br />

(e) the observance of precautionary measures against fire and the maintenance of fire appliances in<br />

bis charge in good order. He will inform the B.S.O. or Supervisor Grade I of his requirements for stores and<br />

will carry out the instructions given in Chapter X.<br />

62. A clerk in an engineer office is responsible for all clerical work ordered by the officer under<br />

whom he is employed including the maintenance of accounts.<br />

63. The duties of a clerk employed as a cashier include the custody and handling of cash to the<br />

extent of the amount of his security deposit (see paras 102 & 103), recording receipts and payments in the<br />

Cash Book (IAFW-2246) and taking charge of documents connected with this work. He will neither receive<br />

cash nor make payments except tinder the written orders of the GE. He may be assigned other clerical duties<br />

besides those of a cashier.<br />

A J.C.O., W.O. or O.R. may also be required to carry out the duties of a cashier as described above<br />

provided that the amount of cash to be handled by him does not in any case exceed Rs. 1,000.<br />

64. The functions of the DAD AAO(M.E.S.) attacked to engineer offices are three fold:–<br />

(a) as accountant i.e., maintaining certain accounts in accordance with the prescribed rules and<br />

from the data furnished to him;<br />

(b) as primary auditor, i.e., charged with the responsibility of applying certain preliminary<br />

checks to the initial accounts, vouchers, etc;<br />

(c) as financial assistant, i.e., as an assistant to the GE in all matters relating to accounts, budget<br />

estimates and operation or financial rules.<br />
