záplavě původních i překladových děl určených dětským
čtenářům se mezi domácími novinkami každoročně
objeví aspoň dvě desítky takových, jež rozhodně stojí za
pozornost a u nichž se dá předpokládat, že si svou vysokou
kvalitu uchovají i v dlouhodobější konkurenci. Výběr těchto
titulů z roku 2003 přináší spolu se základními portréty
jejich tvůrců následující přehled. Uvedené knihy si vydobyly
nejen ohlas čtenářů, ale také přízeň odborné kritiky.
Civilní vyprávění umocněné dynamickými
dřevořezy přináší dvojici pohádek, v nichž
jsou klasické motivy pojaty značně neortodoxně
a směřují k exemplu o nejcennějších
hodnotách, jimiž nikdy nejsou peníze.
První text připomene tahání veliké řepy
s tím rozdílem, že úlovek není k ničemu
hladovým ani boháčům, zatímco druhá pohádka
aktualizuje spiknutí dvou chasníků
proti třetímu společníkovi. Konečné slovo
však dostanou vesmírná tělesa, aby napravila, co si lidé
spískali.

Varied as the quality of the numerous original and translated
titles for children readers may be, every year there appear
at least twenty new Czech books worthy of attention,
whose quality should stand the test even of the more long-
-term competition. The following overview brings a selection
of these titles from 2003, along with brief portraits of their
authors. Asides from proving popular with the readers, the
featured books have also been recognised by the critics.

This civil narrative, intensified by dynamic
woodcuts, tells two tales, unorthodox in their
approach to classic motives, and aiming at delivering
an exemplum on the most valued of
possessions, which never is money. The first
text is reminiscent of the pulling out of the big
sugar-beet, the only difference being that this
trophy is of no use to the hungry or the rich,
while the second tale is a modernised version
of a plot between two fellows against their
companion. Celestial bodies have the final word in righting
what the humans have wronged.
