Temporary Event Staff 20 Royal Docks Business School (UEL) The University of East London (UEL) is a global learning community with over 23,000 students from over 120 countries world-wide. We have a strong track-record in widening participation and working with industry. The University of East London launched its BA Events Management degree programme in 2007 and it has already become one of the most popular courses in the Royal Docks Business School. Our students come from a diverse mix of backgrounds and many have previous experience of working in the events industry and related fields. Many are pro-active and are not averse to rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty. Equally, they appear to relish the opportunity to explore new opportunities and to accept additional responsibility, and are often capable of working with limited or no supervision. We actively promote the benefits of gaining practical, hands-on experience during their studies as we understand that this type of experience is vital in an increasingly competitive marketplace. A number of students have worked as temporary events staff at events staged at ExCeL London on an ad-hoc basis and we would welcome any similar opportunities or more formal arrangements. With this in mind, we are proposing to introduce a series of work-based learning modules where students can evaluate their experience and skills in the work environment and attain credit towards their programme of study. Sustainable Events 21 Positive Impact Events Positive Impact is a non for profit organisation that provides education for the events industry through the provision of face to face workshops, best practice sharing and online resources and training.
