STATS
_ . _ _
BABE continued from previous page.
Andy Holiar, his lovely wife Sarah, and
each director devoted to the organization
to get things done. This includes
Dave Thomas, the executive manager,
and the office staff; they are all tremendous
worker bees. The Vice President
John Amidon and his cute wife Maggie,
they both are great to know, and
John was also so neat to work with at
the meetings or on the ranges. All of
the board members would welcome
me as a team player, which was a great
feeling.
Is there anything else you'd like
to add?
One thing I want to do is take this
opportunity to thank my husband, Bill,
for all of his support. He was always
there to encourage me to go be a part
of the action. It was great to be able to
come home and be able to share my experiences
with my best friend. As most
of you know, Bill is a Gunnison County
Deputy Sheriff, and he loves his "cop
pills," miniature chocolate donuts, but
don't tell him I told you, okay?
Some comments from Area I Director,
Bruce Gary:
I tirst met Judy at the Area 1 match
in Reno in 1998. I had thought I was
fairly good at doing stats, but I was nervous
at the idea of working with the famous
"Stats Babes" I'd read about in
Front Sight. When the weekend was
over, I found that I had learned more
in that three days about doing "big
match" stats than I would have thought
possible. And, along the way, I had
gained a new friend, too.
From Judy, I have learned a new
(and very efficient) way to enter and
verify scores that she and her fellow
"Nationals Stats Babe," Anita Augsberger
invented. I've learned how
small things can be huge time-savers
when entering and verifying several
thousand scores over a multi-day
match. I've learned that human fingers
on a computer keypad really CAN
move faster than the eye can see.
And most important, I've learned
that the three most essential things to
have in any stat shack are laughter, purple
pens, and chocolate. Fortunately,
Judy always brings plenty of all three
wherever she goes.
I've had the privilege of working
with Judy a number of times since that
first Area 1 match, and count those
times among my all-time favorite days
on the range. Beyond being an amazing
match asset, she is simply a delight
to be around — even when she brings
that grumpy old husband of hers. (Hi,
Bill!)
I'm truly hoping that I'll have the
opportunity to work with Judy again at
the Race Gun Nationals this fall. I tend
to believe that Judy is the most important
thing I can bring to a stat-shack.
Somehow, things just go better (and are
a LOT more fun) when she is there.
