It's bad. It's gritty. It breaks at 10
pounds even according to my NRA
weight set.
While 10 pounds of double-action
is decent in and of itself, the trigger pull
weight feels like it varies along the
length of the trigger stroke, causing a

really weird "stop
and start" quality' as
you cycle all the way
through. The DA
trigger pulls on most
standard HK USPs
I've handled are better
than this. Fortunately,
this is a gun
meant for competition,
and will generally
start cocked and
locked, so the sub-par
DA pull doesn't really
matter to me. It's just,
how shall I say, aesthetically
offensive. A
custom pistolsmith
could probably do
wonders with it.
Switch to single action and things
get immensely better. Almost as if to
make up for its embarrassing doubleaction
trigger, the USP-E has a really
nice single-action pull. When I say
"nice single-action pull," let's keep that
in perspective. This is not a 1911.

almost effortless take-up. This is much
less than on, say, a Glock, and in any
event can be dealt with as the gun is being
presented toward the target, no big
deal. The trigger breaks at four pounds
even. The USP Expert has a built-in
overall stop; there's only about V32"
of trigger movement after sear release.
Now for the bad news, such as it is.
To fire the next shot you have to let the
trigger out all the way to its forward
position, the full quarter-inch, before it
resets, and then take up the slack again
for every shot. This is immensely
longer than the reset distance on a
1911, and somewhat longer than a
Glock. However, if you "trigger slap"
- and some of the best IPSC shooters on
earth do - your index finger comes so
far forward during reset it totally
leaves the trigger anyway, with either
1911 or HK.
The trigger is probably the biggest
objection 1911-trained IPSC shooters
have to this gun. However, there are
things that can be done at the custom
level to get rid of about half of the trig-
