Charles Daly 1911 package,
used = $505
gun could just as easily be used in Production
division. The CZ85 comes
with an ambidextrous safety and the
first shot can be fired DA. The gun cost
$325.
Four additional magazines from
Cheaper than Dirt cost $70 with shipping.
The double-stack magholders
from Dillon work with the CZ magazines
as well, so let's say they have to be
acquired as well because you're a new
shooter. If we buy the same Uncle
Mike's gear as the 1911, but for the
CZ, we have an additional $69 for a
grand total of $464. For those of you
who look into it, the SIG holster will
work with the CZ, but there are also a
P LaYlettkin"gitW
number of other holsters
available at reasonable
prices.
If you don't reload, then
this last gun is especially
appealing since many catalog
order houses like Dillon,
Cabella's and
Cheaper than Dirt all sell
surplus 9mm ammo
cheap. It costs around
$115/1000. Before I was set up
to reload 9mm I bought a case of surplus
Russian 9mm and it shot great out
of this gun. This is my favorite gun for
NRA Action Pistol, if I can get my
grandson to let go of it long enough.
How do the guns do in competition?
Doug Koenig won the World
Shoot with a full-race CZ-style Tanfoglio.
Angus Hobdell placed second in
Production at the USPSA nationals in
each of the last two years with a CZ.
The NTI has been won with a Glock
21, and shooters like Armando Valdes
and David Sevigny do very well with
similar .40 caliber Glocics.
One c.an easily add accessories to all
three kits and run the bill up to $1000,
but that is not the point. Here are
three examples of great guns one can
start with and stay with for years to
come. The first gun complete and
ready to play cost $598, the second
$505, and the third $464. All cost a lot
less than $1000. With these guns you
can be competitive and have lots of
fun. If you don't reload, use the savings
for ammo, or better yet, get
started reloading. I found a used Dillon
Square Deal B on eBay for $175,
but that's a subject for another article.
