FIREARM CLEANING MADE EASIER

In today's world of
practical shooting, it's common
for a shooter to spend from
$2,000 to $3,000 for a firearm
with hopes that it will help
them attain their goals in
competitive shooting. Of course,
there are a few other trivial
expenses, such as the special
accessories and ammunition.
Every shooter that I know
would rather spend their time
shooting, but sometimes our
shooting must come to a halt in
order to clean our beloved
match blaster.
For years, I've tried just
about everything on the market
to simplify the process of cleaning
leaded and copper fouled
barrels. Some time ago, I came
across a product that I feel is
the greatest invention since the
bore brush - it's called RB-17,
one of many fine products
manufactured by GBC Industries.
In using RB-17, I've
discovered that the lead and
copper buildup in the barreYcompensator
is literally
dissolved andin a much shorter
time. I did a test using RB-17
on a .38 super barrel that had
approximately 800 rounds fired
without cleaning. I applied
some RB-17 to a brass brush
and made 6-8 passes through
the barrel and compensator and
let it sit for approximatley 10
minutes. Using the same
brush, another 6-8 passes were
made through the barreVcompensator
followed by a
couple of passes with clean
patches. To my amazement, the
barrel was spotless with no
trace of lead in the chamber or
rifling. My .38 super is
equipped with a VIC International
double chambered
compensator and I've been very
pleased with the performance.
However, due to the design, it
is difficult to get this hi-tech
marvel, with all the specially
designed cracks and crevices,
really clean. I poured some RB-
17 into the areas that were
inaccessible with the bore brush
and let it sit for a short period
and all that remained was to
scrape away the lead particles
that were in smaller confines of
the compensator.
Well, being a curious
person, I contacted GBC Industries
to find out what makes
RB-17 work better than any-
thing else I've tried. What
follows is an old country boy's
translation of language used by
a chemical engineer. RB-17 is
an ammonia base cleaner that
comes in gel form. It is not a
solvent or petroleum, and it is
biodegradable. Basically RB-17
removes the oxygen atom from
rust, copper, lead, etc., and
turns it into a liquid for easy
removal from the surface it has
adhered too.
RB-17 has been found
safe for all surfaces including
rubber. Also, RB-17 does not
harm the bluing or woodgrips.
In fact RB-17 will remove the
oil from the surface of an oilsoaked
gun stock. The makers
of RB-17 also market an excellent
oil that I feel is equivalent
to anything else on the market
today.
I don't know if I opened
any eyes or not but I am very
impressed with the products
marketed by GBC Industries.
All I can say is try it, you'll like
it. If not, well, I'll be out shooting
while everyone else is home
