Four players scored in double figures, led by a careerhigh
21 points from senior Allison Bennett, and the
Bulls shot 56.6 percent from the floor to shock the
visiting Miami University RedHawks, 80-61, for their
first conference win of the season. The Bulls’ 80 points
are the most they have scored since an 86-80 overtime
win at Youngstown State on December 18, 2002. There
were 10 lead changes in the first half before the Bulls
closed it with a 6-0 run that gave them a 35-27 lead
at the break. Buffalo opened the second half with a
7-0 run and later broke the game open with a 17-3 run
over a span of 4:33 midway through the half. They
led by as many as 29 points down the stretch before
settling for the 19-point victory. Allison Bennett was
a perfect 6-for-6 in the second half, scoring 16 of her
game-high 21 points. Freshman Stephanie Bennett
was a perfect 4-for-4 in the first half and finished the
game 7-for-10 and 4-for-5 from three-point range for
a career-high 18 points. She also added seven assists
and six rebounds. Junior Brooke Meunier, celebrating
her 21st birthday, finished with 17 points, six rebounds
and four assists.

GAME 14: BALL STATE 75, BUFFALO 55

The visiting Ball State Cardinals had two players
record double-doubles and capitalized on second
chances and on UB turnovers to defeat the Bulls by
a 75-55 score in front of 1,118 fans in Alumni Arena.
The Cardinals led 31-26 at halftime and quickly
upped their lead to double figures with a 6-0 run to
start the second half. They extended the run to 12-4
to go up 43-30 at the 15:09 mark to put the game out
of reach. Ball State outrebounded the Bulls by a 42-
33 margin in the game and scored 15 second-chance
points on 17 offensive rebounds. The Cardinals
also scored 13 points off of Buffalo’s 19 turnovers.
Freshmen Stephanie Bennett and Heather Turner
led the Bulls with 11 points apiece while Turner also
grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Allison
Bennett also reached double figures with 10 points.

GAME 15: AKRON 71, BUFFALO 63

The Bulls got themselves in too big of a hole that
they could not climb out of despite a gutsy secondhalf
comeback attempt led by senior Talia Merlino
that came up short in a 71-63 loss to the Akron Zips.
Akron, hungry for its first win of the season, jumped
out to a 9-0 lead and led by 14 at halftime, 35-21.
Trailing by 20 midway through the second half, 53-
33, Merlino came off the bench and hit three straight
three-pointers for a 9-0 UB run, and she scored four
more points as the run extended to 15-4 to cut the
Bulls’ deficit to nine, 57-48, with 5:35 on the clock. The
Bulls kept chipping away and got as close as four,
65-
61, but the Zips made 8-of-10 free throws in the final
two minutes of the game to hold on for the victory.
The Bulls had five players finish in double figures in
scoring for the first time since the 2002-03 season.
Merlino set a career high and sophomore Belinda
Gibb tied her career high with 13 points apiece.
