A larger number of limitations in the activities of daily living increases the probability of using residential care. These results are qualitatively similar to those for Spain. In the next section, we conduct simulations to quantitatively evaluate the impact of age and number of limitations. Suffering from dementia dramatically increases the probability of institutionalisation in the Netherlands. The estimated effects are more significant for the Netherlands than for Spain (see Table 2.5 and Table 2.6 in the next section for simulation exercises).
