Each year the Agency has received notifications of at least 150 occurrences investigated by NIBs. Around 15 % of the final investigation reports reached the Agency by the end of the year in which the accident occurred. An overwhelming majority of final reports are submitted to the Agency in the year following the occurrence of the accident. For example, for occurrences in 2009, 24 were closed and the report submitted to the Agency by the end of 2009. During 2010, the final investigation report was received for 117 out of the 170 occurrences in 2009 (red bars in Figure 15). NIB annual reports The NIBs are required to send an annual report to the Agency. In the course of 2010, the Agency received 23 annual reports for the year 2009. The reports show large variation in the number of investigations opened by NIBs; during 2009, the numbers ranged from 0 to more than 15, and the number of recommendations issued following the investigation ranged from 0 to over 20. 31
