Being recognised as the application specialist in Australia, Croplands secured the exclusive distribution of ALBUZ and agrotop nozzles which we complement with the TeeJet range. The synergies we share with Nufarm, such as Spraywise, give us an unparalleled understanding of application technology. We can match target, chemical, nozzle and sprayer to recommend the most efficient and efficacious delivery system. Nufarm’s R&D trial program gives us the confidence that our products and recommendations work. Trends in Nozzle Selection Coarse – Driven by growing concerns about drift problems, recent years have seen a constant shift away from conventional nozzles to anti drift nozzles. Extensive research programs, such as Spraywise, have demonstrated that the advantages of a FINE spray quality have been largely overrated. Coverage and efficacy can be achieved with coarser spray qualities. Even with coverage sensitive herbicides, increasing the water volume creates better efficacy than reducing the spray quality. This stewardship program is a Nufarm initiative to deliver best practise spraying and drift management techniques. Over the last 8 years, Spraywise has been instrumental in raising awareness amongst the farming community about important spray application parameters. Spraywise consolidates various tools, research results and training courses into one program to assist farmers better manage their spraying activities. The result is increased operational flexibility without compromising efficacy. Air-induction – Key selection criteria for the applicator should be to select a nozzle that produces the coarsest spray quality without compromising efficacy. In most cases that will lead to an air-induction design. Those types of nozzles will also increase the operational flexibility because they reduce the spray application’s vulnerability to wind and Delta T. Ceramic – Nozzles with high quality ceramic orifices are becoming more popular. Long durability makes this material a very cost effective option. The exclusive introduction of ALBUZ nozzles into the Optima range allows Croplands to offer ceramic options now in all nozzle classes, including low pressure air-induction. Spraywise continues to educate farmers and contractors so that conditions such as temperature inversion can be identified and considered in their spray decisions. Angle – A global trend in broadacre nozzle design is to create 110° flat fan nozzles that produce two fans in various degrees to each other (see page 49).
