This is the second highly augmented edition € 930,= of which the last 2 vols. are by Latreille. The first edition deals with the mammals <strong>and</strong> birds. This is one of his great books <strong>and</strong> the founder of comparative anatomy (first edition 1817). He classified the animal world in four main groups being Vertebrates, Molluscs, Articulata <strong>and</strong> Radiata. See Printing <strong>and</strong> the Mind of Man no. 276. This forms the bird part of the famous Expedition de F. de Castelnau en Amérique du Sud between 1843 <strong>and</strong> 1847. 64. Des Murs, O. Hist.) vol.1, p.446. <strong>Rare</strong> <strong>and</strong> important oological catalogue by this eminent ornithologist, who also published the famous Iconographie ornithologique. The nice woodengraved title depicts several eggforms such as: cylindrique, oralaire, ovée elliptique, ovoïconique, sphèrique. A small repair on the halftitle.
