A basic morphological <strong>and</strong> systematic monograph on birds. The cover of volume 1 is stained <strong>and</strong> soiled. 92. Gadeau de Kerville, H. (both restored). € 295,= = Fasc. 2 has some marginal waterstaining. Ronsil 1140. All that has been published on birds of Norm<strong>and</strong>y <strong>and</strong> rare. Vogelbuch; Thierbuch, das ist ein kurze Beschreybung aller vierfüssingen Thieren; Fischbuch, vollkomne Beschreybung aller Fischen so in dem Meer und süssen Wasseren; Schlangenbuch; De Scorpione, kurze Beschreybung des Scorpions, 5 books in 2 vols. Zürich, Froschauer, 1575-1589. Folio text with about 1275 fine woodcuts in the text (several on the complete page). New full calf in old style <strong>and</strong> new flyleaves. € 13.600,= = Nissen ZBI, 1552, 1555, 1557; Nissen IVB, 350. Important german translation of the famous Historia Animalium including the rare Schlangenbuch <strong>and</strong> De Scorpione, mostly in the 2nd/3rd edition. Some first leaves of the Thierreich have been restored in lower corner <strong>and</strong> a light thumbing in corners as usual in all 5 books. Several tears have been repaired, but otherwise a good copy with broad margins <strong>and</strong> strong imprint of the woodcuts. Vague library stamp on 2 titles <strong>and</strong> some h<strong>and</strong>written notes in an old h<strong>and</strong>. In the "Vogelbuch" the last 40 ll. have a waterstain. See picture… 95. Gink, C. van Officiele St<strong>and</strong>aard der erkende Pluimveerassen in 5 vols. Doetinchem (no date, about 1950?). 970p., num figs. H.cloth. € 325,= = The big dutch book on the official st<strong>and</strong>ards of poultry in the Netherl<strong>and</strong>s, very well illustrated. This is the same Gink who published together with Spruyt, the popular "Onze Duiven" in 1930.
96. Gmelin, C. Gemeinnützige systematische Naturgeschichte der Säugethiere, der Vögel, der Amphibien (incl. Schlangen und Fische) für gebildete Leser nach den Linnéischen Natursystem entworfen in 5 vols. Mannheim, J. Neydeck, 1809-1815, (1818). Text with h<strong>and</strong>coloured engraved frontisp. <strong>and</strong> 264 h<strong>and</strong>coloured engravings mostly engraved by W. Siegrist, Jun. <strong>and</strong> including the index in 3 languages. Cont. h.calf with marbled flyleaves. € 8.500,= = <strong>Rare</strong> second impression(?) of the first edition with the Amphibian plates printed on blueish <strong>and</strong> stronger paper. Nissen ZBI, 1596a only quotes 263 plates. Dean, Bibl. of fishes vol.1 p.479 only quotes the 2nd ed. 1829 with the same amount of fish plates. Because we are lacking the text <strong>and</strong> titlepage to the fishes we can not tell which edition the Atlas to the fishes actually is. Even though not totally complete very scarce <strong>and</strong> especially important because of the fine illustrations of the amphibians, snakes <strong>and</strong> fishes. The atlasses are devided as follows: Mammals with 28 h<strong>and</strong>coloured plates <strong>and</strong> 1 h<strong>and</strong>coloured frontisp; Birds in 2 vols. with 87 h<strong>and</strong>coloured plates; Fishes with 113 h<strong>and</strong>coloured plates <strong>and</strong> Amphibians with 36 h<strong>and</strong>coloured plates. Some faint foxing in the text, but hardly noticeable. Some h<strong>and</strong>written names in an old h<strong>and</strong> only added on the blanc part of the foldout bird plates, so not obstrusive in any way. Small library stamp on first blanc of each volume. Carl Christian Gmelin (1762-1837) was the director of the Botanical Garden in Karlsruhe (Germany). This is his only contribution on zoology. He published in 1805/26 the Flora Badensis Alsatica in 4 vols. 97. Good, A. The birds of French Cameroon in 2 vols. Dakar, Mem. Inst. Franç. d'Afrique Noire 1952/53. 4to. 470p., including 52 figs. Published in a limited edition of 2000 copies, of which this is no. 1152. 99. Gould, J. Introduction to the Trochilidae or family of Humming-birds. London, Taylor <strong>and</strong> Francis, 1861. IV, 216p. Orig. red cloth (rebacked). = A revised version of the introduction to Gould's great colour plate folio: € 325,= A monograph of the Trochilidae (1849/60). A limited number were printed at the author's expense for distribution amongst scientists <strong>and</strong> friends, thus scarce.
