GASTROPODA 23Turritella lippincotti Weller, 1907, p. 698, pl. 79, fig. 1.Description.-"Shell <strong>of</strong> medium size, rather rapidly tapering, theapical angle being about 20" or less. Volutions flattened on the surfacein the direction <strong>of</strong> the spire, with scarcely perceptible suture lines whcrethe shell is preserved, and only vcry moderate ones in the east; theirform in a section being trapezoidal, the upper and lower outer anglesbeing rather sharply angular, even in an internal cast; basal face seareelyconvex ; volntions nnmerous, a fragment measuring not quite 2 inchesin length, with a diameter at the lower end <strong>of</strong> five-eighths <strong>of</strong> an inch, retainingseven, ~ ith space at the upper portion for about fire more. Surface<strong>of</strong> the shell marked, in the only specimen which preserves it, by finerounded spiral, thrcad-lilx lines over the entire surface." (Whitfield)Remarks.-Whitfield's types <strong>of</strong> this species are casts from naturaln~onlds ivhich shorn the external features <strong>of</strong> the shell. Suture situated near the middle <strong>of</strong> a rather broad, depressetl,coneavt: channel <strong>of</strong> moderate depth, the lower slope <strong>of</strong> thechannel bcing less abrupt than the upper and mith a slight revolvingrib micl~vay <strong>of</strong> the slope; the greatest depth <strong>of</strong> the sutural furrow liesa little ahow tbc suture itself. Surface <strong>of</strong> the volutions, betmeen thcmargins <strong>of</strong> the sutural furrow, flat and marked by three strong, revolving,angnlar ribs <strong>of</strong> cqual strength, with rounded interspaces.
