If the specimen were complete to the apical extremityit mould be 75 mm. or more in length, with 15 or more volutions.Suture moderately impressed, situated in the bottom <strong>of</strong> a broadly angular,revolving groove; the surface <strong>of</strong> the volutions moderately convex,their greatest diameter at or a little below the mid-height. Surfacemarked by about 12 tine, revolving costae, between which, in the lo\vcrhalf <strong>of</strong> the volutioii at least, there are usually alternate smilller ones.Shell substance thin. Each whorl is ornamented withconspicuoos spiral rills, bearing regularly spaced blunt nodes. Theinterspeces vary in width and beer fine threadlike secondary lincsusuallyfour to six. These secondary lines are <strong>of</strong> varying intensity,there usually being one or two in each interspace much more conspicuousthan the others. Aperture brolten in most specimens, but whcrcpreserved appears to be broadly subovate."Length (Type NJSM 10575) (incomplete) 35.0 mm.Length (paratype ANSI' 15680) (incomplete) 36.0 mm.Re111arks.-"Resembles T. alacneili Stephenson dredged from Banquereau,Nova Scotia, hut has the individual whorls less conspicuous,less prominent sutures, and a smaller number <strong>of</strong> secondary interspatiallines. It is equally close to T. thon~asina Stephenson, also from Banquercau.It is also related to T. shuleri Stephenson from the Woodbineformation <strong>of</strong> Texas. According to Dr. Stephenson, these nodose species<strong>of</strong> Turritella are not known later than the basal Upper Cretaceous.This is one <strong>of</strong> the commonest species in the siderite layer at theNEW JERSEY GEOLOGICAL SURVEY
