It holds membership in <strong>the</strong> NationalofAssociation of Schools of Music and has <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>the</strong> Association for <strong>the</strong> Bachelor of Arts degreeofin applied music. The College is a coeducational institution with an enrollment of approximately 800.Admission ProceduresA student wishing to make application should write to <strong>the</strong> Office of <strong>the</strong> Registrar for <strong>the</strong> applicationblank. It is recommended that a student make <strong>the</strong> request for admission at <strong>the</strong> end of his junior yearin high school.Students are normally enrolled for <strong>the</strong> school year beginning in September; however, it also ispossible for student to enter in January or June.aIn selecting students for admission to Western Maryland College, consideration is given to <strong>the</strong>following:1. Quality and content of secondary school record.2. Results of aptitude tests.3. Recommendation of principal or counselor.4. Personality record.5. Curriculum OOeringsWestern Maryland College is a liberal arts <strong>college</strong> offering <strong>the</strong> following major departments: Art,Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Business Administration, English, French, Greek, History, HomeEconomics, Latin, Ma<strong>the</strong>matics, Music, Philosophy and Religion, Physical Education, Physics, Pre-Medical, Psychology, and Sociology.Courses are given in <strong>the</strong> following departments, although <strong>the</strong>y are not considered major departments:Astronomy, Dramatic Art, Education, General Science, Geology, German, Political Science,<strong>Library</strong> Science, Mechanical Drawing, Military Science and Spanish.The Department of Secondary Education offers those courses necessary for meeting <strong>the</strong> requirementsfor certification by <strong>the</strong> State Department of Education of Maryland. Those students desiring toqualify to teach in o<strong>the</strong>r stales, should consult with <strong>the</strong>ir own state department concerning <strong>the</strong>ir requirements.In most cases, with careful planning, a student can qualify for teaching ill o<strong>the</strong>r states.ExpensesA non-refundable registration fee of $15 is required of each student at <strong>the</strong> time he is accepted foradmission. The tuition charge <strong>the</strong> scholastic year is 8400; <strong>the</strong> cost for room and board rangesforfrom $412 $487. An activities fee of 825 is payable annually, There is an annual health fee $5.00to offor all students residing in <strong>the</strong> <strong>college</strong>.
