ON THE COVERMr. F. Murray Benson, '17. Baltimore lawyerand <strong>college</strong> trustee since 1936, has beenBoard of Trustees ofelected Chairman of <strong>the</strong>Western Mar-yland College. Mr. Benson is <strong>the</strong>son of Rev. Pr-ank T. Benson, former editor of<strong>the</strong> "Methodist Protestant" and Board member.Mr. Benson succeeds Bishop James H.Straughn, 'flO, as Chairman.his gr-aduation Following from WesternMaryland 1917 Mr. Benson studied law atin<strong>the</strong> University of Maryland rrcm which hereceived <strong>the</strong> degree of LL.B., being admittedto <strong>the</strong> State Bar in 1922.In 1930 he became a member of <strong>the</strong> MarylandLegislature, serving in that capacityuntil 1933, at which time he became President<strong>the</strong> Commissioners tov Opening Streets inofBaltimore.In 1924 he was elected City Solicitor, andserved ior one year' in that office.Since 1943 Mr. Benson has been U memberof<strong>the</strong> Law Firm of Tydings, Sauerwein, Bensonand Boyd. In 1944 he became Parole Directorfor <strong>the</strong> State of Marylund, and wasnamed President of <strong>the</strong> Middle Atlantic StatesParole Association in 1948.Mr. Benson a Vice-president of <strong>the</strong> Mar-ylandGeneral Hospital, and a member of <strong>the</strong>Boar-d of Trustees of <strong>the</strong> Westminster TheologicalSeminary, besides a member ofMethodist<strong>the</strong> Board of PublicationsChurch.He was married in 1926 to Miss MeriamSeipel. They have four children, two boys andtwo girls, <strong>the</strong> oldest of whom, Janice, is ajunior at westernThe Bensons reside 3501 Copley Road,Baltimore, and attend Methodist Church.StanHis bro<strong>the</strong>r, Arthur Emory Benson, residentof Los Angeles, California, a graduate of<strong>the</strong> dass of 1924 at Western Maryland, is <strong>the</strong>Vice-President of <strong>the</strong> West America JnsuranceCompany.NEW COLLEGE TRUSTEEThe appointment of Mr. D.
