THE COVER STORYThe two young ladies pictured on the COverof your May bulletin are standing at theentrance of the newest building on the campus,the William J. Thompson Infirmary.Through a gift of the late Dr. William J.Thompson and Mrs. Thompson, of New YorkCity, the erection of this building was madepossible. Though neither of the donors attendedWestern Maryland, they were bothinterested in the College, and Dr. Thompsonwas a Trustee. The new Infirmary will beformally dedicated on May 6; it has been inuse since the students returned to the campusfollowing the Spring vacationThe Co-eds on the cover are both students onthe Hill. It would be a misnomer to call MissDawson, (the one in white), a student nurse,for she is a graduate of the South BaltimoreGeneral Hospital. More appropriately wecould call her a N1O'8e Student; she has cometo the College teo take her B, S. in Biologyhere. Her companion, Miss Barbara Winters,is a freshman f!'om Oaklyn, who is majoringin Botany.The new infirmary, a one story building,Georgian in architectural design, has beenequipped with hospital Iut-niture and othersuitable appointments through the generosttyof several people who have memorialized someof the rooms. The men's ward has been Iur-,nished by Mr. Daniel MacLea, of Baltimore,in memor-y of his wife, the late Mrs. DanielMacLea; the women's ward, by Dr. Charles R.Foutz, of Westminster, in memory of his wife,the late M!·s. Carrie E. Foutz, '99; 'the men'sisolation ward by Mr. James Peai-re Wantz,Sr. ex-'99, in memory of his wife, the lateCarrta R. Wantz, '96; and the women's isolationward by the Class of 1924 in memory ofthe late Agnes Atkinson Harris, a member- ofthat class; the treatment room by Dr, WilliamD. Chase, '23,Equipment tor some of the other rooms inthe new building have been furnished by severa!campus or-ganiaa tions : for the Nursesquarter's by the 1949 Pan-Hellenic Council;for the office by the 1949 Aloha; and for thereception room by the Gamma Beta Chi ft-a-,ternity.1950 ALUMNI WEEK ENDAlumni, desiring to stay at the College overthe COmmencement week end-here's how;Reservations must reach the College notlater than May 24, accompanied by a checkFer $2.00 for each person (adults only) forwhom room accommodations are desired.
