THE COVER STORYThe two young ladies pictured on <strong>the</strong> COverof your May bulletin are standing at <strong>the</strong>entrance of <strong>the</strong> newest building on <strong>the</strong> <strong>campus</strong>,<strong>the</strong> William J. Thompson Infirmary.Through a gift of <strong>the</strong> late Dr. William J.Thompson and Mrs. Thompson, of New YorkCity, <strong>the</strong> erection of this building was madepossible. Though nei<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> donors attendedWestern Maryland, <strong>the</strong>y were bothinterested in <strong>the</strong> College, and Dr. Thompsonwas a Trustee. The new Infirmary will beformally dedicated on May 6; it has been inuse since <strong>the</strong> students returned to <strong>the</strong> <strong>campus</strong>following <strong>the</strong> Spring vacationThe Co-eds on <strong>the</strong> cover are both students on<strong>the</strong> Hill. It would be a misnomer to call MissDawson, (<strong>the</strong> one in white), a student nurse,for she is a graduate of <strong>the</strong> South BaltimoreGeneral Hospital. More appropriately wecould call her a N1O'8e Student; she has cometo <strong>the</strong> College teo take her B, S. in Biologyhere. Her companion, Miss Barbara Winters,is a freshman f!'om Oaklyn, who is majoringin Botany.The new infirmary, a one story building,Georgian in architectural design, has beenequipped with hospital Iut-niture and o<strong>the</strong>rsuitable appointments through <strong>the</strong> generosttyof several people who have memorialized someof <strong>the</strong> rooms. The men's ward has been Iur-,nished by Mr. Daniel MacLea, of Baltimore,in memor-y of his wife, <strong>the</strong> late Mrs. DanielMacLea; <strong>the</strong> women's ward, by Dr. Charles R.Foutz, of Westminster, in memory of his wife,<strong>the</strong> late M!·s. Carrie E. Foutz, '99; '<strong>the</strong> men'sisolation ward by Mr. James Peai-re Wantz,Sr. ex-'99, in memory of his wife, <strong>the</strong> lateCarrta R. Wantz, '96; and <strong>the</strong> women's isolationward by <strong>the</strong> Class of 1924 in memory of<strong>the</strong> late Agnes Atkinson Harris, a member- ofthat class; <strong>the</strong> treatment room by Dr, WilliamD.
