STUDENT NEWSHonors and AwardsAmerican Student DentalAssociation (ASDA)Winning the second-highesthonor, the <strong>UDM</strong>SDAmerican Student DentalAssociation (ASDA) chapter received theGold Crown Award for Most ImprovedChapter for the 2012-2013 year duringthe ASDA Annual Session in Atlanta,GA. The award is given to the chapterthat shows the most improvement inworking towards the “Ideal ASDA”chapter- the conference’s highest honor.The award recognizes the efforts <strong>of</strong>both the Executive Board and theinvolved students, as they work torebuild the chapter on campus.When asked to summarize theexperience, the Director <strong>of</strong> StudentAffairs and Staff Advisor for the ASDAChapter, Juliette Daniels stated “OurASDA Chapter was truly deserving <strong>of</strong>the Gold Crown Award for MostImproved Chapter. Over the past year,the Executive Board worked extremelyhard to create and sustain an engagingyear <strong>of</strong> programming, membershipactivities, and events to enhance theoverall student experience here at <strong>UDM</strong>.The Executive Board began withthoughtful goals and a thorough plan;their passion, dedication, and energyallowed them to even exceed their ownexpectations. It was truly a successfulyear and I am honored to have been asmall part <strong>of</strong> their accomplishmentsover the past year. More importantly,these students have created a vibrantASDA Chapter full <strong>of</strong> students excitedto get involved with their dental educationand the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> dentistry.”Furthermore, Faculty Advisor, Dr. GaryE. Jeffers noted “It is indeed a pleasureto work with such a fine group <strong>of</strong> wellmotivatedand forward-thinkingstudents who are constantly planning,developing and implementing ways tomake their ASDA Chapter the best thatit can be. The <strong>UDM</strong> Chapter is blessedwith many outstanding leaders who allcontribute their fullest in engaging othersto achieve such levels <strong>of</strong> success. Theyhave a bright future, and I anticipateeven greater achievements as we lookahead to another noteworthy year.”Also at the ASDA meeting, AlexMartella (‘14) was elected as a District 6trustee, while Gabriel Holdwick (‘14)was elected as Speaker <strong>of</strong> the House.Holdwick has also served as ASDADistrict 6 cabinet secretary and as hischapter’s vice president and legislativechair.
