After completing their researchpresentation, Joe surprised the audienceand Jenna with an engagement ring. Joeis completing his residency inperiodontology and Jenna recentlygraduated from the dental school.Dr. Gerald C. Dietz Jr. (’86) was electedto serve as the Director <strong>of</strong> District IV atthe 2013 American Association <strong>of</strong>Endodontists annual session in Honolulu,HI. District IV represents: Illinois,Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, WestVirginia, and Wisconsin. Dr. Dietz Jr. willserve a three-year team from 2013-2016.Dr. Charles D. Hasse (’75) was electedthe 21st President <strong>of</strong> the AmericanCollege <strong>of</strong> Oral and Maxill<strong>of</strong>acialSurgeons at the Annual ScientificConference in Scottsdale, AZon April 22nd, 2013.Dr. Craig Herrmann (’87) will bethrowing out the first pitch at the Tigersgame on September 17th, 2013. TheTigers will be playing the Mariners atComerica Park in <strong>Detroit</strong>, MI.Ms. Sheroyn Jones (’02) and Ms. LynneSikawa (’88) are currently working withMargo Kempinski (‘13) and Ole Sikawaon outreach projects related to “Youand I Alliance.” After identifying twodifferent facilities in Kenya that couldbenefit from dental supplies, the group’sfirst goal is to collect funds to ship overthe resources needed. His daughter,Natalie Datien (’13) recently graduatedas a third-generation dentist.Ms. Laura Manning- Lee (’94)organized the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dentistry</strong>team for the Fight for Air Climb eventsponsored by the American LungAssociation. The event was held onMarch 3, 2013 at the RenaissanceCenter in <strong>Detroit</strong>, MI. The eventbrought awareness to the importance<strong>of</strong> healthy lungs by challengingparticipants to climb 40 (half climb)or 70 (full climb) floors.Ms. Lauri Sanko (’01) was honoredby the dental hygiene students with a“Pink Hygiene Day for Ms. Sanko”event in February at the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Dentistry</strong>. All students wore theirpink scrubs to support breastcancer awareness.Dr. Ron Schalter (’82) has relocated toSouthwest Florida after 30 years <strong>of</strong>practice, and has formed SuncoastPr<strong>of</strong>essional Sales, LLC. Dr. Schalter isinvolved with the dental practicebrokerage and real estate sales.As a tribute to Ms. Lauri Sanko, the dentalhygiene students wore their pink scrubs toacknowledge the importance <strong>of</strong> breastcancer awareness, rightMs. Margo Kempinski, Ms. Lynne Sikawa,Mr. Ole Sikawa, and Ms. Sheroyn Jonesparticipating in “You and I Alliance,” below28 LEADING EDGE SUMMER 2013
