Poker Run and Pig Roast: In memory of Gunnery Sgt. Robert L. Gilbert II, an area marine killed in Afghanistan, the annual event sponsored by AMVETS Post 176 provides travel support for the immediate family members of wounded soldiers. The run and roast is Saturday, July 30, at the post, 3944 Wheatley Rd., Richfield. Registration is from 9-10:30 a.m. The first bikes will leave at 10:30 a.m. Cost is $15 per person and includes a biscuits and gravy breakfast. The pig roast, with live entertainment, begins at 4 p.m. Call 440-263-4583 or 330-697-7331. ∞ Over the Rhine Concert: The folk band Over the Rhine will perform on Thursday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m., at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, 714 North Portage Path, Akron. The outdoor concert will be at the Great Meadow. The gate opens at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30. Stan Hywet members pay $24. Guests should bring beach chairs and/or blankets. Tickets include parking and the opportunity to tour the Stan Hywet gardens. Alcohol will be available for purchase but bringing it onto the estate is prohibited. Swimmers also can visit the Hinckley Lake Swimming Area, located off Bellus Road in the reservation and open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Aug. 14. There is no charge. They will learn about farm life in the Cuyahoga Valley from the past to the present. Days are spent working farms in the Cuyahoga Valley. Nights are spent in Cuyahoga Valley National Park and include campfires and night hikes. Fee is $425.
