CHAPTER 1ARMAGEDDONSeptember 11, 2001 dawned as a beautiful morning inNorthern California. We were looking forward to spending anuneventful day and then celebrating our 24 th weddinganniversary together when the phone rang. Our daughter calledand told us to turn on the TV because something awful hadhappened in New York City. We were met with a sight, thatwe, along with millions of fellow Americans, will never forget.The image of the Twin Towers falling has been burned into ourcollective memories as a nation and the horror that we felt willnot soon be forgotten.Terrorism had finally crossed the ocean and come to ourland. We had been warned for years that it was not a questionof “if”, but “when” a terrorist act would hit our great nation.We had watched with disinterested complacency the suicidebombings occurring in the Middle East, never dreaming thatthey would become a reality in our country. But, thepredictions had in fact become true and we were suddenlymaking choices that would not have been acceptable or evenconsidered before 9/11.We had now lost the innocence that we once took for grantedand had been lured into exchanging our freedoms that wefought so hard with our blood to win and then protect, for asecurity that we will never again enjoy. Benjamin Franklinstated correctly that if we give up our freedoms for security wewill have neither freedom nor security.1
Numerous commentators have noted that this country willnever again be the same. One commentator on Fox Newsrecently predicted that we will have another 9/11. The PatriotAct was rushed through Congress and we are now seeingpeople detained without being charged with a crime. Our e-mails and phone conversations are being monitored in thename of national security. Truly the protections that ourconstitution guaranteed us are being eroded before our eyes,but we have not seen anything yet.Babies’ brains have been sucked out with partial birthabortions in the name of freedom of choice. Mothers are killingtheir children and fathers are killing their entire families beforekilling themselves. Sex outside of the marriage contract is nowconsidered the norm and gay marriages are being publiclyperformed. We are rapidly plunging into an end time abyss thatDaniel the prophet and John the Revelator could only writeabout. Armageddon is right around the corner and most peopleare not ready. Worse yet, they do not have a clue what is aboutto happen or the cause of the misery that we are in now.Before we discuss the meaning of Armageddon, let us goback eons of time to see if we can discover the root of theproblems that we are now facing in our modern world. Yousee, a harvest of evil cannot be reaped before an evil seed isplanted. We will look at the history of this great controversyand will then see how it will play out in our generation andwhat the Bible predicts will be the final resolution. Truly theend has begun.2
