Rememberthat the Corinthians were Gentile converts that Paul wasteaching. "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be anew lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passoveris sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not withold leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness;but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." (1Corinthians 5:7-8 KJV) Paul is clearly teaching his Gentileconverts to not only keep God’s Festivals, but is also teachingthem the deep spiritual meanings contained therein.Jesus is Our Example in All ThingsJesus gave us an example of how to celebrate Passover in Luke22:8-20 by observing the foot washing and Communion atPassover time. Notice that Jesus did not slay or eat a lamb on thisday. 1 Peter 2:21 states, “Christ also suffered for us, leaving us anexample that ye should follow His steps.” Since Jesus celebratedthe foot washing and Communion without the sacrificial systemon Passover, so should we. In Luke 22:16 Jesus said, “Withdesire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;For I say unto you, I will not anymore eat thereof, until it(Passover) be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” [Parenthesesinserted.] Jesus is saying that Passover is not fulfilled until27
heaven. In Matthew 5:18 Jesus said, “For verily I say unto you,Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wisepass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Since Passover is not yetfulfilled we should still be observing it, as Jesus did, with the footwashing and Communion meal.Jesus called Communion by the name of Passover, and observedit at a home on Passover evening. He said in Luke 22:19, “this doin remembrance of me.” It is noteworthy that Passover is calledby the name of Communion or Mass, is not celebrated in a home,but celebrated at all times of the year except on Passover itself. Ifit were not for Easter, most of Christianity would not have a clueas to the time of year when Passover occurs. Remember that theCatholic Church changed the name, time, and place of celebratingGod’s Festivals and most of Christianity has followed along.The Bible records that Jesus also kept the Sabbath. "And hecame to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as hiscustom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day,and stood up for to read." (Luke 4:16 KJV) Jesus, beingJewish, would have recognized that the Sabbath day was theseventh day of the week—the day that we call Saturday. IfJesus is our example in all things and He kept the Sabbath onSaturday, then do you not think that we should do the same?Remember that He is Lord of the Sabbath (Saturday)."Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath."(Mark 2:28 KJV)The Bible also records that Jesus observed the Feast ofTabernacles in John chapter seven. However, note that Jesusnever sacrificed a lamb because He knew that when He died onthe cross then the sacrificial system, which was the sacrificingof a lamb when someone sinned and which God commanded28
