filmmaker Alexei Popogrebsky has made the critically acclaimed
ROADS TO KOKTeBeL and SIMPLe THINGS, his latest film HOW I eNDeD
THIS SUMMeR competes for the Golden Bear this year. Joining
him on stage are Romanian director Florin Şerban, whose IF I WANT
TO WHISTLe, I WHISTLe also enjoys its world premiere in the 2010
Berlinale Competition, and Serbian director Vladimir Perišić, whose
ORDINARY PeOPLe competed for the Caméra d’Or at the 2009 Cannes
Film Festival and won the main award at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
This panel explores fresh new cinema from Serbia, Russia and Romania
and will have the filmmakers reflect on what it means to work as
young filmmakers in eastern europe today, how they put togeth ­
er their creative “dream teams” and found the right cast for their films.

The Campus Post­Production Studio, geared to equip Talents
to practical filmmaking techniques, focuses on digital workflows. This
includes shooting with the ReD One and the eX3 camera, editing on
Avid, grading on the Nucoda Film Master and the final mastering.
30 Talents have been selected to work with expert practitioners in
the Digital Workflow segment of this bustling post­production hub.
Prominent specialist for HD Camera, Stefan Ciupek and Dirk Meier will
present the outcome of the Digital Workflows section.

editing for weeks now but still stuck? That little extra input is
needed to finalise the film. Internationally renowned editors join the
Campus editing Studio to give feedback and help filmmakers refine
their rough­cuts in a full­day, one­on­one editing session. Drawing on
their experiences in the Campus editing Studio, selected participants
will present excerpts from their rough­cuts and show how the oneday
session activated fresh approaches to the editing process. In
dialogue with Menno Boerema and Katja Dringenberg, the editorial
teams will discuss the specific challenges they identified within their
rough­cuts, and the questions, experiments and solutions that were
tested in the editing Studio. What kinds of questions do editors pose
to directors and to themselves when confronted with a rough­cut or
unedited dailies?

The eighth edition of the Berlinale Talent Campus comes to
a close this evening. Is this really the end? Not quite! Before we send
you off, we offer things to take home: opportunities and activities that
you can avail of from your home base. Comprising members of the
Campus team, this panel provides an overview of all the extra­Campus
services that may be useful to you in developing current and future
film projects. Information related to the Campus Abroad editions and
the Campus online database will be presented.

Today, more than ever, music fulfills a vital role in feature films.
What music does in film is to make up for the emotion that is lost on
camera. It creates the right mood and an emotional pull that directs
your feelings. If it’s done well, you won’t even notice its presence. What
film composers add, what they enhance, begins with what's on the
screen. At the nerve center of practice and theory, the Berlinale Talent
Campus’ Score Competition has guided three young film composers
through the process of creating original music to accompany the visual
medium and to synchronising it seamlessly to visual events. each
of the final three scores presented at this event will tell a story of its
own. The three finalist will converse with filmmaker David OReilly,
whose short film PLeASe SAY SOMeTHING they scored for the Score
Competition, about their work and strategies in the music studio, the
preparation and the recording of their scores and the challenges they
faced during the film scoring process.

Six days of high­spirited action, of sharing, developing film
ideas, networking, getting inspired and motivated come to a close. The
8th edition of the Berlinale Talent Campus ends with a farewell from
the Campus team and the announcement of the winner of the Score
Competition. The winning contestant will be awarded a trip to the
best sound studios in Los Angeles, sponsored by Dolby Laboratories.
In celebration of an exhilarating Campus week, we invite all of
you to the Closing Party in HAU 2. Come prepared to expend the last
bit of your reserve energy with us!
