The renovation alternatives must:- point out whether is it sustainable and effective at all, to apply sustainable renovationmeasures- show the effect of applying WarmBouwen to a house. Thus show the differencebetween the current situation and the situation of WarmBouwen- show the difference between applying WarmBouwen and applying the current widelyapplied „standard‟ measuresBased on these criteria, the following alternatives are selected:1. No renovation. Details of this alternative are described in appendix C1.2. Standard renovation. Details of this alternative are described in appendix C1.DETERMINATION OF PARAMETERSFor the application of the model, many input parameters are determined. The literature,reports and product sheets that are used to determine the input for model application arelisted in appendix D.For determining the input parameters for the application of the model, several expertshave been consulted. The experts that have been consulted for determining the input ofthe model calculations are listed in appendix D.SELECTING THE EXPERTSFor the collection of valid input parameters for the model application, it is important thatthe consulted experts have specialist knowledge on the field of the subject. The consultedexperts that are listed in appendix D are all professionals and experts in the field of thesubject, they are consulted about. Most of these experts are consulted by telephone.CASE STUDIESThe goal of the case studies is to deliver input parameters for model calculations.Therefore the selection criteria below are defined for the selection of the cases.The case must:- be comparable with the situation in this research- be able to produce objective information- be recently executedAs a result of the stated selection criteria stated above, the following cases are selected:- “De Tempel” – Den Haag- “Krayenhoff” – UithoornFor the data collection at the case studies, a list of subjects is made on which detailedinformation is needed. The cases provide detailed information about exploitationcalculations and offers. Therefore, the cases provide useful input for the calculations.MODEL OPTIMIZATIONThe second goal of the fourth phase is the improvement of the model based on the modelapplication. For the improvement of the model, the input and output of the model areinterpreted and analyzed.The updated model is applied again on the three selected renovation alternatives. Theapplication of the updated model generates the output that is analyzed for the researchresults.18
2.5.5 PHASE 4 - MODEL APPLICATIONIn phase five the results from the model application on the three defined renovationalternatives in phase four are analyzed. Information about the model application anddata analysis is provided in chapter 5, page 58.DATA ANALYSISThe analysis of the data consists of the following steps:1. Analysis of the behavior of the performance of each renovation alternative due toscenario changes2. Correlation analysis between factors within the model3. Analysis of the composition of the output of each main model factor4. Analysis of the influence of boundary conditions on the output of each alternative2.5.6 PHASE 5 - CONCLUSIONSFinally, conclusions and recommendations are provided on the basis of the formulatedresearch questions. Chapter 7, page 83 provides the conclusions and recommendationsof this research.2.6 RESEARCH SCOPEIn this research, five main factors of influence on the life cycle performance areidentified. The extensive elaboration of the factor „life cycle yields‟ is outside the scope ofthis research. For the model application, the elaboration of this factor is executed with alimited level of detail, based on specialist knowledge.The aspect „life cycle costs‟ is used to determine the average yearly life cycle costs forinterior climate regulation of a house. If a house is occupied by tenants, these life cyclecosts will be partly at the expense of the tenants and partly at the expense of the owner,which can be a housing corporation or a real estate investor. At the determination of theperformance of a renovation concept on the aspect „life cycle costs‟, the distinctionbetween the parties that bear the costs is not taken into account. The problems thatarise from this issue are outside the scope of this research.The aspect „energy use of lighting‟ of a house, is outside the scope of this research. Theperformance of a sustainable renovation concept refers to the performance on the aspectof interior climate control of a house and the way a house is capable to cope withfunctional changes and adaptations.This research focuses on the renovation of houses. Although a lot of identified factors inthe developed evaluation model also account for the renovation of office buildings andother and utility buildings, the developed model may have its shortcomings for this typeof buildings.19
