FB SERIESLarge Ceramic Fiber 2200°F Electric Box FurnacesAPPLICATIONSThe FB Series Electric Box Furnaces are largegeneral purpose ceramic fiber lined furnaces. They achieve high precision by featuringhighly accurate digital controls, mercurycontactors for fast cycle times, two zonecontrol (top and bottom) and even spacing ofelements. They reach temperatures up to2200°F (1200°C) with 2600°F (1425°C) fiberand up to 2000°F (1095°C) with 2300°F(1260°C) fiber. Insulation is all ceramic fiberexcept for hearth and hearth support. Theyare available is standard sizes up to eight feetcubed and even larger in custom sizes. This is a custom size FB 4410which is 4 feet wide by 4 feet highby 10 feet deep. It includes bottomelements and a pneumatic verticaldoor. Bottom elements are unusualin these big furnaces but can beuseful for uniformity and/or addingmore KW to the system.FEATURESHIGH TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITYThe furnace is uniform to within +/-25°F(+/-14°C) above 1500°F (815°C). Optionaltop mounted recirculating fans and multizonepower controls are available foruniformity of up to +/-10°F (+/-5.5°C).EVEN ELEMENT PLACEMENTEach element is separately and evenly spacedon the bottom, sides, door and back in rowsof ceramic holders. This is the finest method ofdistributing radiant heat energy at hightemperatures and is unique to L&L furnaces.ZONE CONTROL FOR HIGH UNIFORMITYThe elements are divided into top andbottom zones. The control output is routedthrough two input switches to allowadjustment of the total time on to each zone. There are thermocouples mounted top andbottom with a selector switch to read thedifferential. Special designs with up to sixzones or more can be used to promote evengreater temperature uniformity.CERAMIC ELEMENT HOLDERSThe elements are supported in proprietaryceramic element holders. These provideperfect support for the coiled elements aswell as excellent radiating characteristics. Thesmooth surface prevents premature failure ofthe element as it expands and contracts. Theholders are kept in place on the insulationwalls with specially designed ceramic clampsand screws. These fasten to a stainless steelmesh screen which is an integral part of theinsulation modules. See web site for details.CERAMIC FIBER INSULATION FEATURESFAST HEAT UP AND COOL DOWNThe sides of the furnace are insulated with 8”of low density ceramic fiber and mineral woolboard. The top is insulated with 10 pounddensity 8” ceramic fiber modules.Page 12HEARTHS AND LOADING SYSTEMSThe hearth is typically insulated with ceramicfiber, firebrick sections or light weight buttough insulating castable refractory slabs. Thestandard hearth is a flat castable floor.Castable piers for forklift loading areoptional. An option for a convenient loadingsystem is a serpentine alloy hearth tray whichis loaded into the furnace with a hydraulicallyoperated loader (see page 13). Other hearthssuch as alloy rollers are available.DOOR AND SEALThe door seal is a folded pad of ceramic fiberblanket which seals against a rigid ceramicfiber board attached to the case front. Thestandard furnace door is horizontally openingwith a double-pivoted hinge which allowsparallelogram opening of the door. This keepsthe hot face of the door away from theoperator and allows tight sealing of the door.Four hand wheels clamp the door tightlyagainst the front seal. Pneumatic or electricallyoperated vertical doors are optional (theseare particularly useful when loading andunloading the furnace hot).DIGITAL PID CONTROL AND HIGH LIMITStandard controls include a Honeywell UDC2300 digital control and separate high limitback up control. Mercury contactors arestandard; SCR power controls optional.OPTIONS● NEMA 12 PANEL OPTION: Includes a fuseddisconnect switch.● RAMP/SOAK PROGRAM CONTROLS● TEMPERATURE RECORDERS● SCR POWER CONTROLS● MULTI-ZONE CONTROL: with a UMC800.● HIGH TEMPERATURE FANS● ATMOSPHERE CONTROL● POWERED VENTURI FOR COOLING● PNEUMATIC VERTICAL DOOR● LOADERS: See pages 3, 9 & 13.● HEAT SHIELD: For 120°F (20°C) case temperatures.● BOTTOM ELEMENTS● ALSO SEE XLE OPTIONS: See page 9www.hotfurnace.com
