GHH SERIES1700°C Ceramic Fiber Lined Front Loading Box FurnacesAPPLICATIONSThe GHH Series Ultra High TemperatureFront Loading Box Furnacesfeature a unique lightweight ultrahigh temperature ceramic fiber insulationsystem for fast heat up andlow BTU input requirements. TheGHH series achieves 1700°C (3100°F)under continuous operation. Theinsulation system, which is the mostfragile and difficult aspect of this typeof furnace, is uncompromised inquality and construction detail. It isguaranteed for one full year - animportant consideration with thistype of furnace.FEATURESMULTILAYERED FIBER INSULATIONThe furnace is insulated with multi-layeredhigh alumina and alumina-silicate ceramicfiber board. The hot face is prefired highalumina board made by Zircar or Rath. Theinsulation is segmented and supported by aseries of splines, alumina rods and sapphireclips. This is the most critical part of thefurnace design in terms of longevity. Tripleheat locks are designed into the system forextra protection at high temperatures. Avestibule protects the molybdenum disilicideelements and prevents excessive heat losswhen the front door is opened.MOLYBDENUM DISILICIDE ELEMENTSThe elements are Kanthal Super 33 U-shapedmolybdenum disilicide elements. These willwithstand 1800°C (3275°F) in air. Allelectrical connections are at the top, and theelements are suspended from the roof. Theelectrical resistivity of these elementsremains constant over time with little aging.This allows replacement of one elementwithout changing all elements, a distinctadvantage over silicon carbide elements. Lowwatt density is designed into the elements formaximum element life. All aluminum elementconnection hardware is used to preventgalvanic corrosion.DOUBLE WALL CASE CONSTRUCTIONThe insulation module has its own rigid nonwarpingrefractory board exterior. Thisinsulation module is inserted into a ventilatedsteel casing leaving an air space between theexterior case and the insulation module. Thisallows for cooling of the insulation, importantin long insulation life, and helps maintain acool external case temperature. LargerPage 24Model GHH 36.<strong>furnaces</strong> feature integral cooling fans toinsure good cold face strength of theinsulation. The GHH 5 and GHH 8 are benchmounted while all others are floor mountedwith an integrated stand.DEEP PLUG DOOR CONSTRUCTIONThe horizontally opening door features adeep plug type seal with triple heat locks.Two pivots, one on the left and one in thecenter of the door, insure very tight sealing. Avestibule around the door opening furtherreduces heat loss and helps protect theelements.GOOD TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITYUniformity of +/-10°C (+/-18°F) is normalabove 1200°C (2200°F) within 2/3 of theworking dimensions.ALUMINA HEARTHThe hearth is a flat alumina plate (or series ofplates) supported by a series of insulatingalumina posts which transfer the weight ofthe hearth all the way to the bottom of thecold face of the bottom insulation.FAST HEAT UP AND COOL DOWNThe all fiber insulation and Kanthal Super 33elements provide extremely fast heating andcooling response.PID DIGITAL CONTROL, HIGH LIMITCONTROL AND SCR POWER CONTROLThe standard control used is a HoneywellUDC2300 digital PID tuning control. Amatched transformer and phase angle firedSCR controls power to the elements. Thethermocouples are type B. Included is aUDC2300 digital high limit back up controlwith manual reset, back up contactors andseparate type B thermocouple.OPTIONS● NEMA 12 PANEL OPTION: Includes a fuseddisconnect switch.● ATMOSPHERE CONTROL: The GHH<strong>furnaces</strong> can be fitted for use with inertatmospheres. This is accomplished by having asecondary atmosphere casing that contains theinsulation module. This casing has its own gasketeddoor. Inlet of the atmosphere is through theelement connection chamber to maintain coolelement connections.
