XLG SERIESMulti-Burner High Velocity Gas Fired Box FurnacesAPPLICATIONSThe XLG Series Furnaces aremulti-purpose Gas Fired BoxFurnaces.They are highly uniformin temperature and feature accuratedigital controls and multiplemedium or high velocityEclipse “Thermjet” proportionallycontrolled burnerswith an independent combustionblower. The XLG <strong>furnaces</strong>can be rated as high as 2400°F(1315°C) although the typicalrating is 2000°F (1095°C).Connected gas pressure canbe as low as one psi. Thecirculation of the hot gases,especially with multiple velocityburners, promotes good temperatureuniformity without the useof high temperature fans.The burners can beadjusted to run lean to provide a slightlyreducing atmosphere (although this cannotbe precisely controlled). These <strong>furnaces</strong> areexcellent for ceramics processing and mostmetallurgical work where precise atmospherecontrol is not required. Systems can bedesigned with excess air for high uniformityat low temperatures.FEATURESECLIPSE THERMJET VELOCITY BURNERSThe furnace is heated with two or more“Thermjet” medium or high velocity burners.These typically fire over the load with burnerplacement balanced to maximize circulation ofthe combustion gasses. In larger units theymay be configured to fire over and under theload. These are sized for the proper BTUrequirements for your load and fuel type. Inaddition the choice of high or medium velocityis an engineering choice dependent on loadconfiguration and furnace size. The burnersfeature low NOX emissions, integral gas andair orifice plates (for precise gas and airbalancing), high velocity for good temperatureuniformity in the furnace and excellent turndownratio of 50:1 for a wide range of control.The burners are direct ignition whicheliminates the need for a bypass pilot.FM GAS TRAIN & COMBUSTION BLOWERThe gas system includes two hydraulicmechanicalshut off valves, manual shut offvalve, pressure regulator and pressure gauges.Each burner has gas and air adjustments andshut off valves. An airpressure gauge and switch monitor performance.IRI rated gas train is optional.ELECTRONIC FLAME SAFETY SYSTEM,SPARK IGNITOR AND PURGE TIMEREach burner is ignited with a spark plugautomatically actuated from the Eclipse Multi-Flame Series 6000 flame safety system. UV(ultra violet) sensors monitor each burner.Before ignition the system goes through atimed purge with the combustion air. Safetyinterlocks include a combustion air pressureswitch and high/low gas pressure switch.Thedigital Eclipse Multi-Flame 6000 flamemonitoring system indicates the status of theburners and gas train. It includes runningtime along with voltage signal from each UVsensor. It will alert the operator of anyproblem with the burners, air flow or gaspressure and will provide “first out” informationto actually pinpoint a problem. Theoperator only needs to press the RESET keyto restart the burner firing sequence.HIGH TEMPERATURE UNIFORMITYThe furnace uniformity is +/-15°F (+/-8.3°C)above 1200°F (650°C) within the workingdimensions. High uniformity at lowertemperatures can be achieved with excess air.EFFICIENT CERAMIC FIBER INSULATIONThe sides, back, door and top surfaces aretypically insulated with 2300°F (1260°C) ceramicfiber modules, 8” thick, 10 LB density, althoughthis is easily modified for different temperatureranges and applications.The bottom is insulatedwith a combination of castable and firebrick.Loads can be directly placed on this strongbottom. Optional castable piers (as shownabove),ceramic,silicon carbide,serpentine or flatalloy hearth plates are available.HEAVY DUTY CASEThe furnace case is constructed of heavygauge steel with structural stiffeners, liftingrings and leveling bolts.COUNTERBALANCED VERTICAL DOORThe standard furnace door is a counterbalancedvertical door with a pneumaticopener and hand or foot operated valve. (Seepage 12). Double pivoted horizontal doorsare optional (standard on 6 and 8 foot highmodels as shown above).DIGITAL CONTROL WITH HIGH LIMITThe standard control is a Honeywell UDC2300 digital PID tuning control. A UDC2300high limit control is also included. All fusesand controls are located in a NEMA 12 panel.The thermocouples are type K with inconelprotection tubes. A limit switch turns downthe burners when the door is opened.Control voltage is 120 volts.MEETS NEC, NFPA, OSHA AND FM CODESThe furnace is designed to NFPA 86standards.The wiring meets the NationalElectrical Code. The combustion systemmeets FM standards. IRI standards are available.Furnace drawings can be submitted toFM or IRI for approval.www.hotfurnace.com
