I s s u e N o . 2P a g e 5Brimbank Try-A-Trade ExpoSixteen of our Kings Park Year 10 students were invited to attend the Brimbank Try-A-Trade Expo at Keilor Downs Trade Training Centre on Friday 3 August, 2012. Studentstook great delight in working on all stations and had a lot of fun learning all aboutplumbing, carpentry, bricklaying and state of the art welding. The girls were championsat bricklaying and practiced the trade like experts! They all had a go at making a woodenpencil box to take home for show and tell. The day was a successful taster for those thatare keen to pursue a trade and others who wanted to learn a bit more about what it isinvolved in those pathways. The day was a great success and we are all looking forwardto participate in many more similar events in the future.Bella Esmail-MooreCareers AdvisorCopperfield CollegeUniformThe Copperfield College uniformis available from thePSW Deer Park store:58 Westwood Drive, Deer ParkPh: 9363 8458Monday to Friday: 8.30am -5.00pmSaturday: 9.00am - 5.00pmUniform items can also bepurchased onlineOrders can be delivered to yourhome!www.psw.com.auInstrumentalMusicOur campus offers a range ofinstrumental music to all students.Instruments offered are: Drums,Guitar, Woodwind(e.g. saxophone, flute), Bass Guitar, singing lessons.Forms can be collectedfrom General Office. For more informationcontactMr Gary Allen

I s s u e N o . 2P a g e 6Back to the 80’sIf you missed the 2012 college production, you missed a fabulous, high quality show. The final night performance on Friday 24 August was the last of five matinees and threenight shows.Over 120 students from Year 7 to 12 across all three campuses were involved in this productionand were responsible for all aspects of the show. There were student choreographers, students designing and operating lighting and sound, students running backstage, students singing, dancing, acting and playing music. It is all about the students and thiswas their show and they did it so well. They have shown dedication, determination, commitment, made personal sacrifices and worked hard over five months of rehearsal and avery heavy week of shows. The last three matinee performances were attended by Grade4, 5 and 6 students fromMackellar PS, Stevensville PS, Parkwood Green PS, Movelle PS, Taylors Hill PS, AlbanvalePS and Kings Park PS. This is proving to be an extremely successful transitionactivity thanks to the organisation and enthusiasm of Mr Darryl Forbes in his role asTransition Coordinator. At least three quarters of the students in the production remembercoming to see earlier productions with their primary schools. The production is a team project and while students experienced personal achievement, the success comes from effective teamwork. It was truly amazing to see the kindness, consideration and caring attitudes of the students as they overcame their own insecuritiesto produce a professional production. The experience the students have in the productionand performing arts varies greatly. There were two students who have been in every productionfrom Year 7 in 2007 to Year 12 in 2012, there were 25 students who were in theirfirst production as Year 7 students (did anyone spot the two who were awarded performingArts scholarships!) and everything in between. A Year 11 student who enrolled in theschool shortly after rehearsals had started signed up straight away and became one of thelead singers. The leadership, coaching, support and guidance shown by our experiencedstudents was quite amazing. The team was also strengthened by a significant number of past students who came backto lend a hand with make-up, lighting, backstage and general energy and enthusiasm. This is an indication of what the production meant to them as Copperfield students andwe appreciated their support and presence.Thank you to the staff who have, up to the performance week, continued to do their ‘dayjob’ as well as put in the many extra hours: Ms Soula Dedes, Ms Eugenia Kozlevcar, MsDaniella Olea, Ms Lina Nicolas, Ms Vivienne Xerri, Mr Andrew Minnard, Mr GarryAllen, Mr Simon Rabl, Ms Judy Scarfe. Throughout the performance week they weresupported by Mr Phil Coloca, Mr Darryl Forbes and Mr Som Souriyavong. Lastly, thankyou to Ms Helen Jensen, director/producer/team leader extraordinaire.‘We had the time of our lives’.Sue WettenhallCampus Principal – Performing Arts
