I s s u e N o . 5 P a g e 6As part of my personal developmentcommunity service project, in termtwo I painted a picture of Uluru forthe children’s ward in SunshineHospital. I used the hospital’scolours which are purple and green. It has been an honour to do apainting for the children’s ward. Before I started I spent a few daysgetting to know all about thehospital. On the first day I went for atour around the hospital and I sawthe cancer ward, the secure GEM’S garden & the hospital’s training centre. The second time, I went to the children’s ward and I studied the play room. Theplay room looked lonely, old, & bare. I felt sad for the children staying there. The last time I went to the hospital, the secure gem staff put on a barbecue tothank the Copperfield students for all their hard work.I would like to thank Ms Alessio, Ms Maric, Kirsten and Rose.By Mark Talavera 1P1Community ProjectAutomotive ProjectCommunity ProjectOn the 14th of September, two year 12VCAL students Dilen Djemal andDanny Mai organised an excursion forthe year 11 and 12 VET Automotiveclasses to Sandown raceway for theV8 Supercars as part of their VCALcommunity project. On arrival at the raceway, we walkedaround in a big group and looked at allthe show cars whilst waiting for thepractice races to begin. The raceswere truly spectacular and nothing likemany of the students have ever seenbefore.Overall the day was a good experiencefor all students involved. They allthoroughly enjoyed seeing the V8supercars flying around the track andall the show cars.By Dilen Djemal and Danny MaiOn the 20th of August, Russel and I worked on teachers cars completing safetychecks on their vehicles to find if there was a problem in the engine andunderneath the car. This project was completed in the auto centre of CopperfieldCollege on the Delahey campus. We checked the lights, all the water levels, oil level, oil leaks, tyre pressure, tyretread wear, oil leaks from underneath the car and any other safety checksrequired.Out of 5 cars the most common fault we found was not enough oil and fluid inthe engine, worn brakes which could lead to car accidents. We charged the teachers $10 for the car inspection and the money we raised wentto the Ronald Mc Donald Foundation .By Yehya Choayk 2Y2CommunityProjectOn the 16th of October, two year12 VCAL students Samuel Riniti& Ephrem Mahari organised acommunity project that involvedthe students to check over andservice the teachers cars.On the day Samuel and Ephremserviced 4 of the teachers carsunder the supervision of MrAustin. With all cars on the hoistthey did a basic check over, diagnose and record of anyproblems that were discovered.Overall the day was a success withgreat results. It was a greatexperience for the students.

I s s u e N o . 5Decking ProjectAs part of my VCAL PDS community project, I (Habeeb) worked withMohammed, David, Andrew and Mr Austin in designing and constructing thenew decking outside the teachers staffroom. In the beginning our progress was slightly weak but slowly we picked up thepace, worked as a constructive team and got the job done.We would all like to give a big thanks to Mr Austin for sharing his knowledgewith us and helping us build new skills.Replacing Chairs on the Delahey CampusCommunity ProjectAs a part of PDS we had to do acommunity project for one of the majoroutcomes for the year. Myself, Tomicaand Jamiel decided to repair the chairsout in the court yard. We thought itwould be a good idea and would benefitthe school to have brand new benches tosit on and also to make things look a bitbetter. We grouped up with Mr Austinand went to Bunnings and Bowens to geta few quotes, we came up with twoquotes. One was about $3000 with all thewood cut to size and planed, the otherone was about $1500 but that woodneeded to be sanded, cut to size andplaned - which we also needed topurchase the tools. We began the projectas soon as the wood arrived, we had toplane, cut, sand and stain the woodplanks to match the benches outside.Over 3-4 weeks we got through 4benches and 1 table, they turned out well.We all enjoyed doing the project.By Jarryd McKeown 2Y2P a g e 7During Terms 2 and 3, Jarryd and Iworked on replacing outdoor seatsand tables. One of the reasons wecompleted this project was to betterthe campus environment atCopperfield. The other reason wasin response to the School Captain’srequests. During the project, someof the skills I used wereorganisation and technical skills.By Tomica Ilic 2Y2Gardening ProjectAs part of an outcome for PDS we had to choose a community project. The communityproject that I decided to participate in was cleaning the Copperfield College garden onthe Delahey campus. This project would take us one whole term working every Mondaymorning under the supervision of Shona Gilchrist. In our community project we had agroup of four;Dominik Panic, Vukasin (Vukii) Djuric ,Danielle Bugarski Aquilina and I.During our time working on our community project we learnt many skills on how togarden and work as a team to achieve our goal of cleaning up the campus and making ita better place. First we cleaned all of the rubbish away and removed the old soil to makeway for the new soil we also removed some of the unwanted trees that were in our way.We all had a great time working together and we would like to thank Shona Gilchristfor supervising us and providing us with equipment and teaching us new skills on howto garden.By Kevin Cruz 2Y2CommunityProjectLast week, KJ and William finishedfour benches in the courtyard.
