what’s on <strong>Honda</strong>03HONDA DREAMS FUND REACHES OUT TO THE ORANG ASLIA group of 20 underprivileged young <strong>Malaysia</strong>nsare on the way to pursuing theirdreams as <strong>Honda</strong> <strong>Malaysia</strong> Sdn Bhd andthe United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) <strong>Malaysia</strong> announced thesecond batch of successful <strong>Honda</strong>Dreams Fund scholars on 23 June 2008in Petaling Jaya.And this year, there is a special emphasison providing scholarships for theorang asli, a group that’s often overlookedby other education initiatives. Byfocussing on these underprivileged communities– many of which lack even basicaccess to modern communications –<strong>Honda</strong> <strong>Malaysia</strong> hopes to give indigenousyouth an equal opportunity to livetheir dreams.The <strong>Honda</strong> Dreams Fund is a <strong>Honda</strong><strong>Malaysia</strong> initiative that focuses specificallyon less fortunate youths who would otherwiselack access to a higher education,providing tertiary education fees andallowances to meet living expenses for theduration of their study. Successful candidateshave the freedom to choose acourse in any local institution.Several HDF roadshows conducted inFebruary and March of 2008 successfullyreached out to indigenous groups inSarawak, Sabah, Pahang and Perak,according to Managing Director and ChiefExecutive Officer of <strong>Honda</strong> <strong>Malaysia</strong> Mr.Atsushi Fujimoto.“We are indeed pleased to note that12 of this year’s candidates are from theindigenous groups of <strong>Malaysia</strong>. ThePower of Dreams is not just a slogan.Much of <strong>Honda</strong>’s achievements todaystems from simple dreams that materialisedinto real life accomplishments. Thisis also the vision behind the <strong>Honda</strong>Dreams Fund – giving underprivilegedyoung <strong>Malaysia</strong>ns who dare to dream achance to fulfil their dreams and achievea better future through education,” saidMr. Fujimoto.In pursuing their dreams and improvingtheir future, these 20 latest scholars will bejoining last year’s inaugural group. Mr. Fujimotoexpressed his hope that the storybehind <strong>Honda</strong>’s Power of Dreams and thelife of Mr. Soichiro <strong>Honda</strong> will inspire andmotivate all the scholars – and indeedevery young <strong>Malaysia</strong>n – to believe in theirown dreams and to have the ChallengingSpirit to achieve them.To ensure award selection and funddisbursement is unbiased, <strong>Honda</strong> <strong>Malaysia</strong>partners with the UNDP to manage theprocess.
