Mid-Ohio ValleyTRAVEL REGION<strong>Golf</strong> Club <strong>of</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>, WaverlyThe Mid-Ohio Valley Region <strong>of</strong> the stateis bordered by Ohio, with the wide OhioRiver separating the two states. Rollinghills and valleys define the Mid-OhioValley Region, providing an abundance <strong>of</strong>outdoor activities. These include boating,fishing, mountain biking, birding, canoeing,camping and, <strong>of</strong> course, golf.A major metropolis for the region isParkersburg. The city's rich heritage, much<strong>of</strong> it involving the early oil and gas industry,is presented at several museums and historicsites. Most notable among these is theBlennerhassett Island Historical State Park,home to a 7,000 square foot mansion builtin 1798. It’s preserved in its original gloryand open for tours, providing a snapshot <strong>of</strong>what life was like for the wealthy barons inthe late 18th and early 19th centuries.Parkersburg is home to two publiclyaccessiblecourses. Worthington <strong>Golf</strong> Clubwas built on relatively flat terrain, so it’s afavorite among walkers. A creek, whichwinds throughout the layout, provides achallenge on several holes. The South Hills<strong>Golf</strong> Club is a championship 18-hole designwith each hole <strong>of</strong>fering its own uniqueset <strong>of</strong> challenges. Measuring just under 6,500yards from the back tees with spaciouslanding areas strategically accented byboth fairway and green-side bunkers,accurate shot-making is a must. Waterhazards are encountered on several <strong>of</strong> theholes. A meandering stream flows throughoutmost <strong>of</strong> the course.Greenhills Country Club in Ravenswood<strong>of</strong>fers one <strong>of</strong> the areas more challenginglayouts. The 18-hole championship coursehas a lengthy, yet wide open, front nineand a hilly, shorter and tighter back nine.The course boasts some <strong>of</strong> the best maintainedgreens in the state.12WWW.WVTOURISM.COM/GOLF
