Morgantown, home toseven golf courses, is golf-central for theregion. It’s located just an hour south <strong>of</strong>Pittsburgh. As home to <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>University, the town <strong>of</strong>fers lots <strong>of</strong> nightlifeand dining options, as well as other outdooractivities, such as mountain biking, raftingand fishing.Lakeview Resort in Morgantown <strong>of</strong>ferstwo championship golf courses, a full servicespa, two restaurants, a 187-room hotel withstandard guestrooms and suites, as wellas 52 two-bedroom, fully-equipped condosalongside one <strong>of</strong> the courses. The resort’stwo 18-hole courses are distinctly different.The historic Lakeview Course opened itsfirst nine holes in 1950 and the second ninein 1954. The Lakeview Course is rated 4 starsby <strong>Golf</strong> Digest’s Places to Play and has beenrated among the top 100 public courses inAmerica. The course <strong>of</strong>fers an intricatetree-lined design, featuring large undulatinggreens, tight fairways and scenic views.The Lakeview Course boasts two signatureholes - the 564-yard 7th which features a180-foot vertical drop from tee to green and<strong>of</strong>fers beautiful views <strong>of</strong> Cheat Lake and the620-yard 18th which is one <strong>of</strong> the mostchallenging par 5s you’ll ever encounter. Thegreen has never been reached in two.The newer Mountainview Course wasdesigned by Bryan Ault and opened in 1985.The course winds through the foothills<strong>of</strong> the Allegheny Mountains, is very hillyand challenging, and its medium-sizedgreens have some undulation. It’s rated3 1/2 stars by <strong>Golf</strong> Digest’s Places to Play.Also in the greater Morgantown areais Alpine Lake Resort in Terra Alta.
