CABLE TV / MEDIA OPERATIONSIn June of 2007 the Board of Selectmen meetings returned to live broadcast onLower Cape TV Channel 17. On July 17, 2007 taping of the committees andboards commenced for the <strong>Orleans</strong> Government Access Cable TelevisionChannel (<strong>Orleans</strong> 18). On August 1, 2007 <strong>Orleans</strong> 18 went live at 6:30 p.m. withthe Board of Selectmen’s meeting.<strong>Orleans</strong> 18 is intended solely to provide information to <strong>Orleans</strong> citizens aboutissues, services, programs, activities, and events involving or affecting localgovernment and the community.<strong>Orleans</strong> 18 operates a full schedule of programming allowing citizens to havebetter access to town government. Currently nine meetings are broadcast liveand rebroadcast throughout the week. In between programming <strong>Orleans</strong> 18broadcasts an Electronic Bulletin Board that provides programming information,committee meetings dates / times, calendar of events for the Council on Agingand Snow Library, and announcements from town departments, committees and<strong>Orleans</strong> based civic groups.In addition to the nine committees / boards that are televised on <strong>Orleans</strong> 18 thereare various programs that are shown. There are several programs from theCouncil on Aging providing useful information to caregivers. Other programmingincludes special meetings and events of interest to the citizens of <strong>Orleans</strong>.The Media Operations Department looks forward to the continued growth of<strong>Orleans</strong> 18 and utilization to better serve and inform the citizens of <strong>Orleans</strong>.Respectfully submitted,Sarah Freeman, Media Operations CoordinatorCABLE TV & TELECOMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEEThe Committee continued in its role of informing the Board of Selectmen, <strong>Town</strong>Administrator and the general public about television and communications issuesaffecting the town, and maintaining close coordination with the MIS Director forbudgeting and technology purposes and with the new Media ProgramsCoordinator for television and web site operations matters.Early in the year the Committee assisted in compiling a revised equipment list forproviding enhanced television capability for the two meeting rooms of the newtown hall. The equipment was procured and installed by late spring. In additionto upgraded television cameras, the Nauset Room was also outfitted with digitalprojection capabilities. The new television suite also includes a digital broadcastserver providing for state-of-the-art programs management and scheduling, videoand audio controls for both meeting rooms, and an electronic bulletin board forpublic services notices. Another innovation was the ability to stream a “live”video signal on the <strong>Town</strong> web site so that citizens could watch a meeting on their110
