2006 CPA grant were used to replace a badly damaged roof. The re-roofing wasthe initial step in a restoration program for the Meeting House that is intended torestore the building to its original appearance and to allow for future uses. Thesefunds will be used to assess the condition of this historic building and to identifyand prioritize needed restoration projects. Funds will also be used to develop aplan for the Museum on its present site in the context of the re-energized <strong>Town</strong>Hall area.Project 5: Meeting House Museum Artifacts & Books PreservationApplicant: <strong>Orleans</strong> Historical SocietyAmount: Asking $6,086 Voted $6,086Summary: The OHS Meeting House Museum contains artifacts and books ofconsiderable historic significance to the <strong>Town</strong>. Many of these require repair alongwith adequate display cases and UV light protection materials to preserve theseitems. Funds will be used to assure that these historic items will continue to beenjoyed by town residents and visitors.Project 6: Academy of Performing Arts Heating System RestorationApplicant: Academy of Performing Arts, Inc.Amount: Asking $89,000 Voted $44,500 which will serve as a matchfor the other required $44,500 to be first raised through Academy fundraisingeffortsSummary: The first phase of the Playhouse restoration was funded with CPAfunds in May 2006 and called for installation of a sprinkler system. Phase II wasfunded with CPA funds in October 2006 and calls for excavating the basementand constructing a new foundation. This Phase II project will serve to stabilizeand reinforce the structure of a building that dates back to 1873 when completed.Funds from this third Academy application will be used to install a modernheating system that will replace the old steam system. This new hot watersystem will serve the theatre via heat exchangers in the attic and will be zonedfor maximum efficiency. The building has been certified an historic structure bythe <strong>Orleans</strong> Historical Commission and has an historic preservation restrictionnegotiated by the CPC attached to its deed.Project 7: Jonathan Young Windmill Restoration and RepairApplicant: <strong>Town</strong> of <strong>Orleans</strong>Amount: Asking $18,100 Voted $18,10060
