ponds by reducing the use of fertilizers and choosing to use dishwashingdetergents that do not contain phosphorus.Among the CCC report’s recommendations was to conduct a survey of theremaining 40 ponds in town that have not been sampled. Any property ownerwho wishes to have a pond sampled may leave a request and contactinformation with the Planning Department. The sampling will be done in Augustand September.The Task Force provided recommendations to implement the report’s findings tothe <strong>Town</strong>. Freshwater pond data has been added to the marine water qualitydata for use during our wastewater management planning process and will helpsupport future town decisions about natural resource management and resourceprotection.The Task Force continues to provide support to our neighboring towns ofBrewster and Eastham with their volunteer monitoring programs. Task Forcemembers and other citizen volunteers continue to support town, state, andcounty-wide wastewater and environmental monitoring efforts and legislation thatimpacts water quality.The Task Force wishes to thank the volunteers who have faithfully capturedwater samples through all kinds of weather conditions this year. Through theirefforts they have added significantly to the scientific knowledge about our town’smarine and aquatic resources. Additional volunteers are needed each summerto carry out monitoring in our estuaries. Those with boats, canoes or kayaks areurgently needed. Kennedy, ChairmanNAUSET REGIONAL SCHOOL COMMITTEEEach year, one of the responsibilities of the Nauset Regional School Committeeis to report, through its chair, to each of its member towns. Each year, since Ihave been chair, it has become more and more difficult to think of different waysto explain how well the middle and high schools are doing.This past year, the superintendent and I were called to make a presentation tothe Regional Subcommittee of the Massachusetts Association of SchoolCommittees. We were one of two school systems asked to participate, the otherbeing a vocational school from the north shore. The reason we were called is thatwe exemplified a system recognized at the state level for its achievements in theMCAS scores from top to bottom. The members of the subcommittee askedquestions for about an hour. Without rehashing the entire Q & A, we explainedthat our programs’ successes are directly attributable to the support of <strong>Orleans</strong>141
