ARTICLE 1. REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN, TOWN OFFICERS ANDSPECIAL COMMITTEESTo act upon the Annual Report of the Board of Selectmen, <strong>Town</strong> <strong>Of</strong>ficers andother Special Committees. (Simple Majority Vote Required)MOTION: To accept and adopt the report of the Selectmen, <strong>Town</strong> <strong>Of</strong>fices and<strong>Town</strong> Committees, Commissions and Boards as published in the 2006 Annual<strong>Town</strong> Report and hear the report of the Planning Board on the <strong>Orleans</strong>Comprehensive Plan.Planning Board Report on the <strong>Orleans</strong> Comprehensive PlanAs required by the <strong>Orleans</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Charter, I will give you a brief update on the<strong>Town</strong>’s progress in implementing the <strong>Orleans</strong> Comprehensive Plan.As you will recall, the Special <strong>Town</strong> Meeting last fall approved an update to the<strong>Town</strong> Plan that brought the inventory sections up to date. The Plan wasunanimously approved by the Cape Cod Commission, and has been recertifiedas being consistent with the goals and policies of the Regional Policy Plan.During the review process, <strong>Orleans</strong> was repeatedly commended for the <strong>Town</strong>’scommitment to planning for the future, and the steps that have been takentoward implementing a sensible and user-friendly Comprehensive Plan. Thosecommendations are passed along to you, the Voters, Boards and Committeeswho have been supportive of taking the steps necessary to improve and preservethe character of <strong>Orleans</strong>.The Planning Board looks forward to using our updated and recertifiedcomprehensive plan in the upcoming years.Among the highest priorities are:• Completing a town-wide wastewater management plan,• Encouraging a diversity of housing opportunities for our citizens,and• Addressing traffic and pedestrian safety issues at key intersections of thetown.John Fallender, Vice Chairman<strong>Orleans</strong> Planning BoardCarolyn Kennedy, Chair of the Marine and Fresh Water Quality Task Force,noted that the committee’s report had been omitted from the published 2006Annual Report.ACTION:Voted, voice vote carries unanimously.56
