<strong>MITSUBISHI</strong> LASER DIODESML8XX1 SERIESFOR OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONI Monitoring outputThe laser diodes emit beams from both of theirmirror surfaces. front and rear surfaces. The rearbeam can be used for monitoring power of thefront beam since the power of the rear isproportional to the front one. In the ML8XXlseries. the rear beam power is changed intophotocurrents by monitor photodiodes. Fig. 10shows typical light output vs. monitoringphotocurrent characteristics. Above the thresholdcurrent. the monitoring photocurrent increaseslinearly with the front light output. The monitoringoutput current is typically O.5mA when the frontlight output is 5mW.Fig. 10 Light output vs. monitoring output current~.500..654S 30.S0~.s::;~21/o o////v0.5Monitoring output 1m (rnA)1.0'<strong>MITSUBISHI</strong>"ELECTRIC2-159
