CHILDREN at a school in the Harborough area spent a day learning about democracy through an
interactive session organised by Harborough District Council.
Kibworth High is one of many schools that have taken part in The Young Citizens Panel, which takes
place every two months at a different middle or high school in the district.
It is a new system set up by the council to ensure that young people’s views are heard and these
views are fed back to the authority.
Children attending the sessions are able to quiz councillors.
The session on Friday focused on waste and recycling and officers designed a game to allow pupils
to see the change in the recycling system and allow them to have their say.
Cllr Blake Pain, who has responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: “The council is delighted that
Kibworth High School was able to participate in one of our Young Citizen Panel sessions. The views
of our young people are very important to us.”
