At the time of referrals, assessments, and at Individualized Education Program(IEP) meetings, parents/guardians, on at least an annual basis, are provided the Notice of Procedural Safeguards.Contact Dr. Julius Steele, Director of Special Education at 631-5863.Education Code Section 56301.Field Trips and Other School-Related TripsThe District may provide transportation for students, employees, and other individuals for field trips andexcursions approved according to district policy. A signed parental/guardian permission form, with appropriaterelease of liability and consent for medical treatment is required, in advance, for each student participating in aschool-sponsored trip. When District transportation is provided, students may be released from using Districttransportation only with the advance written permission of their parent/guardian.The student discipline code applies during, going to, or coming from a school-sponsored activity. Students whoviolate district or school rules and regulations may be subject to discipline, including but not limited to suspensionand expulsion.Field trips shall begin and end at the school. Transportation of students by private vehicle may be authorized by thesuperintendent’s designee when the vehicle is driven by a school employee or parent/guardian age 21 or older whohas a good driving record and who has registered with the District for such purposes. Drivers are required topossess a valid California driver’s license and at least the minimum insurance required by law. Transportation ofstudents by District employees, by other than bus, may be approved when the employee driver meets all Districtstandards to include specific authorization for each transportation trip provided by the employee. Employees willnot transport a student to and from school without specific authorization by the superintendent or designee.The number of passengers, including the driver, shall not exceed the capacity for which the vehicle was designed.Motor trucks may not transport more persons than can safely sit in the passenger compartment. The driver shallalso ensure that the manufacturer’s recommendations for his/her vehicle are followed regarding the seating ofchildren in seats equipped with airbags.All drivers shall wear seat belts in accordance with the law. In addition, drivers shall ensure that: (a) a child who isunder age 6 or under 60 pounds, unless exempted in accordance with Vehicle Code 27360 or 27363, is properlysecured in a rear seat in an appropriate child passenger restraint system meeting federal safety standards: (b) allother children are properly secured in either a legally compliant child passenger restraint system or safety belt and(c) all other passengers wear seat belts.BP 400.16, Education Code Section 35330, 35332, 39830, 39830.1, 39860, 44808; Vehicle Code Sections 27315,27360-27360.5; 27363 exemptions24
