SDR VAV Terminals:Quiet performance withsingle-duct simplicityOwnersSDR terminals offer the typical benefits provided by single-ductunits, while performing at extremely low sound levels. This iscritical in today’s buildings where occupants are placing moreemphasis on indoor acoustics. In addition to quiet and accurate temperature control, thebuilding owner will benefit from lower operating costs. Thehighly amplified, velocity-pressure signal from the FlowStar inlet sensor allows precise airflow control at low air velocities. The FlowStar sensor’s airfoil shape provides minimal pressuredrop across the terminal. This allows the central fan to runat a lower pressure and with less brake horsepower, whilemaintaining occupant comfort.ContractorsPhysical installation is simple with low-profile, compact designand standard metal hanging straps. And control-installation timeis minimized with the availability of factory-mounted and calibratedcontrols. Controls are located on the outside of the unit casing foreasy access by maintenance personnel.A standard, single-point, main-power connection is provided with allelectronic controls and electrical compo nents located on the sameside of the casing, for quick access, adjustment, and troubleshooting. The SDR terminal is manufactured and assembled with amulti-point, center-averaging, airflow sensor, which providesa signal to the controller enabling it to quietly and preciselymeasure airflow. Superior flow measuring allows control atlower minimum cubic-feet-per-minute (CFM) values, whichreduces energy costs and sound levels.DesignersSDR terminals provide variable-air-volume (VAV) control beyondthe typical single-duct box. The compact cabinet design andquiet operation give the system designer the option to place unitsdirectly above occupied spaces. It is not necessary to locate theunit in the crowded space above a hall or corridor. This reduceslengthy and expensive discharge-duct runs. The SDR terminal provides the ultimate in airflow control withthe patented FlowStar airflow sensor. No other sensor in theindustry can match the FlowStar’s ability to quietly and preciselymeasure airflow. The FlowStar sensor ensures accurate control, even when space constraints do not permit long, straight, inletductruns to the terminal. All metal components are fabricated from galvanized steel.Unlike most manufacturers’ terminals, SDR terminals are capableof withstanding a 125-hour, salt-spray test without showing anyevidence of red rust.FlowStar airflow sensorThe FlowStar sensor ensures accurate airflow measurement, regardless of the field-installation conditions. A calibration labeland wiring diagram is located on the terminal for quick referenceduring start-up.SDR terminals require no periodic maintenance and providetrouble-free operation.SDR terminals with electronic controls and/or electricheat are listed with ETL as an assembly, and bear the ETL label.SDR terminals and accessoriesare wired in compliance withall applicable NEC requirementsand tested in accordancewith ARI Standard 880.SDR terminals are available in ten unit sizes to handle airflowcapacities between 45 and 8000 CFM.
