What to seeÇayeli is also known for its beautiful hills,the most famous one being Kupsa Hill. Thisis an ideal place for picnicking. Kupsa, withits spectacular view of the sea, is also host tomany of Çayeli's festivals. Local residentsdance the folkloric horon dance in these festivalsto the melodies of the tulum, after along and exhausting tea season.One of the most important historic sites inÇayeli is the Cafer Paşa Mosque, datingfrom 1467. Located near an old graveyardon a hilltop with a good view of the sea, themosque was ordered by Rize conquerorCafer Paşa, who also had a Turkish bath anda mill built in the area. The mill is still there,but the baths have been destroyed. Anotherhistoric building is the Hacıbaşı Camii, alsoknown as the Old Mosque. However, thismosque was badly damaged during theRussian occupation. Although some restorationhas been carried out, it has lost much ofits quality as a historic land mark.74ÇAYELİBLACK SEA 2010GörmedendönmeyinÇayeli'de birçok tepe vardır ve bunlardan enbilineni Kupsa tepesidir. Burası piknik yapmakiçin ideal bir yerdir. Masmavi bir denizmanzarasına sahip olan Kupsa Tepesi, düzenlenenÇayeli Festivallerine de ev sahipliğiyapar. Çayelililer burada tulum eşliğinde horonteperken, biten çay mevsimininyorgunluğunu atarlar.Çayeli'ndeki tarihî eserlerin arasındaen önemlilerinden biri Cafer PaşaCamisi'dir. Denize hâkim bir tepe üzerindekieski bir mezarlığın yanında yer alan bucami 1467'de inşa edildi. Rize fatihi CaferPaşa tarafından yaptırılan cami ile birlikteayrıca bir değirmen ve bir de hamamyaptırıldı. Değirmen hala ayakta ise dehamam yıkılmıştır. Bir diğer tarihi eserolan Eski Camii ya da diğer adı ile HacıbaşıCamii de Rus işgali zamanında harap oldu.Daha sonra restorasyondan geçtiyse de eskiözelliklerinin çoğunu yitirdi.
