Hartman (cont’d)Mr. Hartman joined KLM as a work analyst for <strong>the</strong> Controllers Department of Engineering &Maintenance on Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 29, 1973. He was appointed Controller - Work for Third Parties atEngineering & Maintenance in 1975. In <strong>the</strong> years that followed he held various positions ascontroller in <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands and abroad. In 1984, he was appointed Direc<strong>to</strong>r - TechnicalContract Services responsible for sales of KLM technical maintenance services <strong>to</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rairlines. In 1987 he was appointed Project Manager - Schiphol 2000. On January 1, 1989, hebecame Vice President - KLM Ground Services Schiphol. In this capacity he was responsiblefor all handling processes at Schiphol and all KLM outstations. Mr. Hartman became SeniorVice President - Cus<strong>to</strong>mer Services on Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 1, 1990, and on April 15, 1994, he was appointedExecutive Vice President - Personnel & Organization. On January 1, 1996, Mr. Hartman <strong>to</strong>ok up<strong>the</strong> post of Executive Vice President - Engineering & Maintenance followed by his appointmen<strong>to</strong>n August 6, 1997 <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> KLM Board of Managing Direc<strong>to</strong>rs. On <strong>the</strong> 1st of April, 2007, he became<strong>the</strong> President and CEO of KLM.Mr. Ron Schipper ; Non-Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r (65)Mr. Ron Schipper was born in 1945 in Bussum in <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands. He joined KLM in 1969,flew for 3 years as a cabin attendant and was <strong>the</strong>n transferred <strong>to</strong> cabin crew managementwhere he worked in various management positions until 1977. He was appointed Manager of<strong>the</strong> Cabin Crew Training Department at Schiphol in <strong>the</strong> same year. He left <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlandsin 1980 for his first posting abroad as Manager Cabin Crew seconded <strong>to</strong> Nigeria <strong>Airways</strong> inLagos. In 1982 he was appointed Sales Manager, <strong>Kenya</strong> based in Nairobi after which he wastransferred <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> UK in 1984 as District Manager, Nor<strong>the</strong>rn England based in Manchester. In1986 Mr. Schipper was appointed General Manager Ghana and in 1989 he spent a brief periodin France as interim General Manager based in Paris before returning <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands <strong>to</strong>take up <strong>the</strong> appointment of Executive Secretary of <strong>the</strong> Passenger Division. Thereafter he wasseconded in 1991 <strong>to</strong> Antillean Airlines in Curacao as Managing Direc<strong>to</strong>r. He returned <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>continent close <strong>to</strong> his heart, Africa, in 1994 and currently holds <strong>the</strong> position of Vice Presidentand Area Manager Africa based in Johannesburg where he currently lives.Mr. Denis D. Afande ; Non-Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r (73)Mr. Afande was for many years a career diplomat, having served in various positions includingAmbassador <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> United States of America and United Nations, Geneva. He also served asPermanent Secretary (Ministries of Home Affairs and Health). His previous appointments also includechairmanship of <strong>the</strong> Capital Markets Authority, <strong>Kenya</strong> Power and Lighting Company and NationalCouncil for Children Services. He is currently a member of several o<strong>the</strong>r charitable organizations.He was appointed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board of <strong>Kenya</strong> <strong>Airways</strong> on 26th November 2004 and is currently <strong>the</strong>Chairman of <strong>the</strong> Board’s Staff and Remuneration Committee and <strong>the</strong> Nominations Committee.Mr. Joseph Kinyua ; Non-Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r (58)Mr. Kinyua is <strong>the</strong> Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance. He is a career economist havingserved in various capacities in <strong>the</strong> Treasury and Central Bank. He has also been involved inseveral projects with <strong>the</strong> International Monetary Fund both within <strong>Kenya</strong> and abroad. He holdsMA and BA degrees in Economics (University of Nairobi). He is currently a member of <strong>the</strong> Board’sAudit and Risk Management Committee and <strong>the</strong> Nominations Committee.Mr. Ayisi Makatiani ; Non-Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r (43)Mr. Makatiani has extensive management experience and operational knowledge of Africanmarkets. He holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from MassachusettsInstitute of Technology (MIT). He is currently Managing Direc<strong>to</strong>r and Chief Executive Officerof African Management Services Company. He has previously served as Managing Partner ofGallium Partners Investments, Non-executive chairman of MCI/UUNET Africa and Founder andChief Executive Officer of Africa Online Holdings. Mr. Makatiani has been voted among <strong>the</strong> leading<strong>to</strong>p 15 CEOs in East Africa, three years in a row, in <strong>the</strong> annual PricewaterhouseCoopers-NationMedia Group survey of <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p CEO’s in <strong>Kenya</strong>, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. He is currently amember of <strong>the</strong> Board’s Staff and Remuneration Committee.Mrs. Salma Mazrui-Watt ; Non-Executive Direc<strong>to</strong>r (44)Mrs. Mazrui-Watt has significant expertise in business leadership, sales and marketing,corporate communications and strategic planning in both <strong>the</strong> private and public sec<strong>to</strong>rs and isan organizational development specialist. She is currently <strong>the</strong> Regional Direc<strong>to</strong>r, PartnershipsDevelopment and External Relations, WWF East & Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Africa Regional Programme Office(ESARPO). Salma was Group Head of Marketing, Africa Online Holdings Ltd., Managing Direc<strong>to</strong>r,Trans Union <strong>Kenya</strong> Ltd. and was <strong>the</strong> Vice Chair for <strong>the</strong> East African Credit Bureau Association(EACBA). Between September 2004 and December 2005, she was CEO for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kenya</strong> PrivateSec<strong>to</strong>r Alliance (KEPSA) and was <strong>the</strong> Chief Operative Office for AAR Health Services where sheworked for 9 years across Eastern Africa. Prior <strong>to</strong> that she ran her own business, CorporatePromotions, a freelance corporate communications firm from 1991 <strong>to</strong> 1996. She has extensivework experience in east, west and sou<strong>the</strong>rn Africa. Salma holds a Bachelor of Sciencedegree in Economics from George Mason University, Virginia, USA and a Masters in BusinessAdministration from <strong>the</strong> University of Nairobi. She has a Certificate in Corporate Governancefrom <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth Association on Corporate Governance. She is a member of <strong>Kenya</strong>’sNational Economic and Social Council and is on <strong>the</strong> Governing Council for KCA University inNairobi. She is also a direc<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> African Fund for Endangered Wildlife and a non-executivedirec<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>Kenya</strong> <strong>Airways</strong>.Mr. Veenstra is a Chartered Accountant. After completing his studies at <strong>the</strong> University ofGroningen in 1991 he worked with KPMG as an audi<strong>to</strong>r. He joined KLM in 1996. He has beenVice President Finance & Control of KLM Engineering & Maintenance from 2001 till 2005. Since2005 he has been Vice President Mergers, Acquisitions and Holdings, and in that position he isresponsible for <strong>the</strong> moni<strong>to</strong>ring of KLM’s holdings. He is a member of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kenya</strong> <strong>Airways</strong>’ Boardand <strong>the</strong> Audit and Risk Management Committee.
