The table below highlights the results of the SWOT profiling that was performed for the current (2012) IDPprocess for the respective ward. In the table below, the wards profiled the ward according to strengths andopportunities on the one hand and the weaknesses and threats of the other.Grow George:Strengths and OpportunitiesAfter school training through National Governmentprogrammes. Youth internet access and computer classes,through current underutilised municipal facilities.Needs a Thusong or multipurpose centre.Provide seed and land for vegetable and herb gardens.Educate and train ward members on organic gardening.Keep George Safe and Clean:Garbage dumping site should be identified.Roads needs to be paved on both sides.More sport and recreational facilities.Ward cleaning projects should be awarded to wardmembers.More trees needs to be planted in the ward.Neighbourhood watch.Deliver Services in George:Deurnis System not fully utilised or communicated to allwho can benefit.Make Protea Park street accessible to the Garden Routemall through a nicely paved back road, so that people cansafely walk to the mall and cut on transport costs which aretoo high.Provide safe school transport.Need satellite clinic in Protea Park.Outlet where electricity can be bought – Protea Park.Participate in George:Platform where budget and progress are communicated tothe ward members on a regular basis. Too manycontracts awarded to people from outside the ward and eventhe greater George area.Illegal taverns.Alcohol and drug abuse.No speed bumps.Invisible law enforcement. Increased police visibility is needed.Bins needed for garden refuse.Rape, burglary and increased crime.Slow reaction of police if crime has been reported.Old houses within the ward need to be upgraded.Replacement of storm water and sewage pipes – currently inbad condition.Lack of low cost housing.Illegal letting of RDP houses to foreigners.No attention and feedback report on issues reported to themunicipality.Mismanagement of housing waiting list. There are someindividuals that have two RDP houses.Covered public transport bays.Speed bumps need to be put in place.Lack of electricity availability.Clear street names.Community Hall is a white elephant and not utilized to its fullpotential – rent too high.IDP Ward workshops are insufficiently planned.
