For parents of children aged: 3-12The Incredible Years - Webster StrattonWhat is this programme?The Incredible Years training is a series of programmes focused on strengtheningparenting competencies by1) Building up more positive relationships with their child2) Helping parents to effectively encourage their child's positive behaviour3) To reduce inadvertent reinforcement of negative behaviour4) Building up parental confidence5) Providing parents with the necessary skills and tools to deal effectively withbehaviour problems and conflict situations.Where are the programmes delivered?Various city-wide venues depending on course provider (see below).Content of the programme:The courses vary in length, but typically are delivered over 12-18 sessions of about 2to 2 ½ hours. Parents attend the programme without their child as this tends to bemore helpful in supporting parents who are seeking to understand how to cope betterwith their child’s most difficult behaviours.The 4 main elements of this program are general discussions about parenting,looking at video vlips of parent-child interactions, trying ideas and principles out bothin the group and at home with your child. The programme is divided into 4 subunits:Program I: Relationship Building, PlayProgram 2: Praise and RewardsProgram 3: Effective Limit SettingProgram 4: Handling MisbehaviourThe Education Psychology Servicerun courses in South Bristol for theEarly Childhood Programme (3-6) andthe School-Age Programme (6-12).The Child and Adolescent MentalHealth Service offers Parent SupportGroups for parents of children aged 5-10yrs for families getting a service fromCAMHS.How it can be accessed:CAMHS / CFCS (Child and Family Consultation Services): For families whoare being seen within specialist CAMH services. A GP, health visitor, schoolhealth nurse or paediatrician can refer you into CAMHS. Once assessed by aCAMHS worker you may be referred to the Webster-Stratton service.Educational Psychology Service: Contact the Educational PsychologyService through their business administrator, Tracey Thomas 0117 9031653tracey.thomas@bristol.gov.uk for details of where courses are currently running.Referrals can be made through schools (usually via the learning mentors,Family Link workers or Child Protection officers), Social Care teams, CAMHSand CAF panels. For parents of children aged:0 – 9 mths (pre-mobile)Infant MassageWhat is this programme?Parents are encouraged to respond to baby’s cues to enhance communication andbonding. Infant massage classes can support this process and heal disruptedbonding. The instructor’s role is to facilitate the relationship between parent asexpert, child as teacher and supporting parents to trust their instinct. It can help:1. Enhance parent/baby communication2. Parents and baby to relax3. Baby to sleep better4. Aid baby’s digestion5. Help relieve colic6. Strengthen baby’s immune system7.
